We got ours almost 2 years ago now. At that time hubby was working midnights & it was me, the dog (85# bulldog) & our new baby home at night. I didn't care if we had it but hubby signed for it because it helped him feel better about the shift he worked knowing that while Winston scares the crap out of everyone who sees him for the first time he isn't the most active pooch. I think hubby's side agenda was the fact that they also put sensors on the garage doors & windows for free. Our system now has the door sensors (which I hardly ever notice actually), window sensors (for opening or breaking glass), as well as the 1 button emergency buttons for fire, police & EMS. It even has apanic code to press in case someone follows us in the house & instructs us to turn off the alarm (by pressing the alternate code, the audio alarm shuts off but the system alerts ADT that it was shut off under duress) & ADT can silently moniter what is happening inside the house by using the mic on the keypad.

BTW, ours costs us about $100 a year & we could cancel it anytime after the first year. Installation was free if we let them put one of their signs (small hexagon sign) in our yard for the first year.

I'd have to look at the paperwork (hubby set everything up). I'll try to remember to look over the weekend but my mind ain't what it used to be.

No biggie. Just odd that they made you put the sign out front... that's exactly how I got my system for free. Advertising.

As I only glanced over the post, I didn't see the mention of the reduction in your homeowners insurance rate. Which offsets the cost of monitoring.
I've got a great system intrusion/fire/panic, being a Firefighter the monitoring company only charges me $12.00 a month........half price.

It also cut 25% off my homeowners insurance.

A dog "WITH" a firearm also make a fine back-up plan........lol!

Rockpick,

A good buddy of mine signed a 3 year contract one year ago with ADT, and so far he loves the piece of mind it gives him and his family.

He is a professional poker player, and he wanted a system that gave him the option of having a couple of "panic button" access points around the house.

He travels with large amounts of cash sometimes, and what worried him was someone following him home after playing in a big game, and doing a home invasion robbery.
So he had panic buttons set up at the front door and in the bedroom.

He pays $30 a month and is very happy with the system so far.

Regards

Crap! I'll say! That's something else!!

Well guys, they installed the system yesterday... so far, so good. I really like it honestly (with the exception that I had it armed and went to take the dog out at around 3am this morning.. LMAO!!! Talk about a wake up call. I guess I'll get used to it eventually!

Thanks for all of the insight guys. I think the piece of mind involved will be more than worth it considering that I'm out of town frequently with work. I think the investment will be worth it.

Again, thanks.

We do get the discount on our home owners insurance altho I don't know the exact amount without looking it up.

Rock, did you get a key fob with your set-up (looks exactly like one for a car/truck)? We got one & we give that to whoever is going to let our dog out while we're away racing. That way noone else needs to know our code. They just use the fob to deactivate the sytem when ariving & again when they go to leave (not that we don't trust my sister or his mom).

Yep. We got a keyfob and, in fact, I'm bidding on another one on ebay as we speak. So far, we've found the fob to be a VERY handy little item. Great idea on giving it to a neighbor for dog duty or similar.
