Thumbs up Some Thoughts on the 2001 Lariat I Bought a Few Weeks Back...

I think I've been struck with "mad truck disease"...

After driving it incessantly for about 4 weeks, I decided to take a break, and take my '95 Mustang to work one morning...

You know, I actually caught myself thinking, "This kinda bites, I wish I took the truck..." It's not that my '95 is a bad car, even though it's a V6, I rebuilt the suspension on it, threw a set of '99 Cobra wheels on it, and all sorts of other odds and ends. Thing looks REAL sharp, and handles AWESOME. But alas, I yearned for my wide Lariat seats, my soft (yet tight) suspension that made going through downtown not only tolerable, but with some varying grades of satisfaction, and dare I say, enjoyment? Even sitting in traffic isn't so bad, I just let my head fall back onto the headrest, and drop my hands onto the lower part of the steering wheel just above my lap, I swear it's the most comfortable driving position I've ever known...

To boot, I had to quickly pull out of a driveway the other day, and wouldn't you know it, it downshifted, snapped my head back, and both rear tires just lit up. I was like, "Wow."

Today, coming home from work, I was driving up a rather steep hill that leads to my house, and I thought, "Hmmm, let's see what happens when I floor her and get her to downshift..."

Again, head snaps back, and she ROARS up the hill...

And to top it off, I ran a carfax on her the other night (yeah, I know, I should have done it BEFORE I bought her), and was happy to find that she had only one prior owner, AND there was a consistent recommended service history, every few thousand miles, supposedly at a Ford dealership, right up until the mileage in which I acquired her... This is in-line with just how immaculate she was at 66,000 miles, I never, ever, thought I'd see a New England truck with clean control arms... Granted, the dealer might have done it, but I doubt it. You had to have been there, even the Lariat mats looked like they were barely used, even the seats were still tightly packed and exhibited NO sign of wear! I knew after the test drive, I HAD to buy her! AND I didn't even know the Lariat was the "luxury" model! LOL!

And have her I did... Dealership even let me take her home on a SUNDAY!

Damn, here's to Ford trucks!

Beanhead,

Welcome to the wonderful world of Ford trucks.

I also went through the "all is good with the world" feeling about my 2000 XLT (SCab, full size bed, long wheel base). I brought her home on a Sunday from Portsmouth Ford. It was great when they brought her out to me, complete with Earhart car seat (my grandson helped me pick it out, now he tells everyone its his truck). The only thing I missed was the Eagle tape that was left in the Cherokee that I traded (since replaced by a CD).

Unfortunetly, now, I only feel that way about 95% of the time. The rest of the time I'm looking at the little things, like the parking lot nicks, etc.

Its been 3 years and 8 months (42000 miles and a couple of dozen mods) and I think 95% says a great deal for Ford.

My Lariat mats look brand new too. When I bought the truck I covered them with rubber mats.

Beanhead, I know the feeling. Although I have had Ford trucks for well, forever. When I bought my 99 XLT I just fell in love. I own 4 other vehicals and really cant remember the last time I drove one of them, kids and wife use them.

I bought mine with 60k and it too was spotless. I have had it for just over a year, 40k miles, many mods, and I dont even mind the couple stone chips that I will be fixing.

And for lighting up the tires I have to get that under control.

Sled...
