Thinking about getting a 2001
Thinking about getting a 2001
Hey everybody
I am thinking about buying a 2001 F-150 XLT Regular cab short box 4x4, with the 4.6 auto. It has a dual exhaust with no muffler, just the 1 pipe split into 2 pipes and straight out the back. It will need a muffler for safety, what is a good loud one? Flowmaster 40?
The price is about $ 20 000 canadian. The truck only has 54 000km on it.
Can anyone tell me if there are any problems to look for on this model? And do you all think that a good price? Any comments apreciated thanks

Welcome to the board Biker Boy. I have owned several Ford trucks in my life and have rarely had any major problems. Just your normal wear and tear issues.
I have an '04 now, but traded in a '99 similar to what you are looking at.
As far as the exhaust goes, I think it depends on the person...I for one don't mind a little noise when I get hard on the gas, but anything that is loud all of the time is annoying to me...again, that's just me. This is my daily transportation...it'd be a little different if it was a 2nd vehicle or a hunting truck...then I say, go as loud as the law lets you!
Now that I reread your post, my truck wasn't that similar. I had a 1999 XLT 4X4 extended cab with the 6'5" bed.
As far as stuff to look for, Ford has been around a loooong time. I wouldn't look for anything out of the ordinary. If you can't do it yourself, have a good mechanic take a look at it for you. I lost all of the oil in my transfer case for the 4X4 in my '97 and had to get that replaced. It's just the small stuff that you tend to overlook.
Are you buying it from a stealer, or from the owner?
Again, welcome to the board!

Hey thanks for the reply! The truck is at a Ford Dealer, I'm gonna see how much extended warranty i can get. The only thing i didn't like was, that the tires are burned up a bit. Alot of burnouts, and the spare is right bald. Are the trannies and rear end strong enough to take that?
I can do most work on it myself just wondered if there are any commom problems.
I got a '93 explorer limited now, but i always wanted a 4x4 f-150

My previous truck was an 01 F-150 XLT Scab, had absolutly no problems.
As for the 40 series muffler, i currently have that on my current 04 F150 4.6, it is defineatly loud enough, but what i don't like is the "drone" sound you get inside the cab of the truck. Im actually thinking of replacing it with a magnaflow. I cant take it anymore!

I have a 2001 XLT Supercab 4x2.
I haven't had any major problems with it. (knock on wood)
I would not accept a bald spare tire from a dealer. I'm sure they can find a decent one to put on.
As for the burnouts and stuff. I would have a machanic really look at it. Poosible even take it to a speedshop and see what they say. They might have a better understanding of what to look for.
