Question So What Exactly Makes a Lariat a Lariat??

I did try searching first, and came up with scattered tidbits, apparently, it's a "package" of features of sorts, anyone know exactly what the Lariat package entails? Or generally entails??

Uh, seriously?

First off, welcome to the board! You'll find some great info here.

Secondly, it would be in your best interest to start by checking out www.fordvehicles.com. You could get a lot of your questions answered there because you can browse at your own speed.

I am assuming you're new to Ford, and possibly new to trucks from your question. The short answer is that Ford offers different packages on their trucks:

XL: Base package
XLT: Base with a few bells and whistles
STX: Somewhat of a 'sporty' truck
OFF ROAD/FX4: Just that, a little tougher suspension, etc
LARIAT: Luxury

Then, of course, there's the Lightning.

Like I said, that's the short answer. The website above will give you a list of all available options available in a truck, and which ones are standard vs. optional equipment for the given trim. There's really no quick/short/easy answer to that question. If you could do a little digging at the site above, it should answer the majority of your questions.

Again, welcome to the board! Come back with any questions!

I am assuming you are talking about your 2001 SuperCab?
(This doesn't apply to supercrew)

Lariat Standard Equipment (adds to the XLT)

4.6L V8 Engine
Automatic Transmission
leather upholstery
6-way power driver seat
power-adjustable pedals
leather-wrapper steering wheel
automatic headlights
remote keyless entry
AM/FM/CD player

I think that everything above could be optioned into another trim line except the leather upholstery.

I went with a Lariat because the step up to a 5.4L was $565 with the Auto included.

An XLT was 6cyl/5spd Standard.
The 5.4L was $1318 and the Auto was another $931 for a total of $2249 (minus the $565) meant I had to option an XLT up $1684 to get the same two options.

The invoice difference between the XLT and Lariat was about $2,000.

You forgot the ETAC (Electronic Temprature A? Control).

And the dash cluster is decked out with a message center, white-faced gauges & 'driving computer'.

I *think* that covers it...

I Love the Lariat!! Welcome to the board!

You guys are gonna poor Bean scratching his head.

Though he didn't so state, I read it as he has bought a used 2001 Lariat and was wondering about the upgrades for that year.

I didn't see any ETAC in the listing for that year.

p.s.
I forgot
automatic day/night rearview mirror
illuminated visor mirrors

Hey thanks all!

Yeah, a couple weeks back, I bought a 2001 Lariat, and 6 days later, drove it to Florida from Massachusetts with my bike in the back (which just so happens to fit PERFECTLY, tailgate shuts firmly on the rear tire! What are the chances???)!

Given, I wasn't really able to do any research down there, as my access to the internet was limited...

Anyway, to address some issues some have brought up, I've VERY new to Ford Trucks, NOT new to Ford... Proir to the Lariat, I had a '94 Cobra, and a '95 V6 (lightly modded with better suspension than the Cobra if you can believe it). I still have the '95V6... Not only have Ford vehicles treated me so well in the past (I also take meticulous care of pretty much everything I own), but I've always loved the F150 series above and beyond all else.

(side note: sat in a Titan while in FL, and I was like WTF? It's more like a Maxima with big wheels that just happens to have a bed, I'd be hesitant to call that a "truck", kinda wondered why they just didn't go all the way and make it a low rider and slap an aluminum wing on the back)

Anyway, I did some poking around fordvehicles.com too, and I could only find stuff on current Ford models, unlike the SVT site, where you can go in and get info. on all past Cobra models... anyway...

Here's some stuff my Lariat has, basically, the whole point of this is to see what sorts of goodies I may have overlooked:

5.4L V8 4X4
"Leather" seats
AM/FM/single CD
Power windows
sliding rear window
keyless entry (f'in dealer didn't take the time to look under the dash for the factory code, thanks to this site, I was able to do it myself... )
17" Chrome wheels
And for whatever reason, 6 cupholders!

See, I don't know if I'm missing anything!

BTW, on my 4th week, and damn, I can't stop driving it!

You might try looking at the 04 Heritage to see what the difference is. There will probably be some differences in the package from 01, but most will be the same.
Well, I take that back, I just looked at the Heritage out at www.fordvehicles.com and they don't have the Lariat option. That will teach me (maybe) to look before I leap.

When did they start with the lighted visor mirrors and power adjustable pedals?? Mine is a 99 and it doesnt it have either of those. Did they start this stuff later, or is my truck a decked out XLT with signal mirrors and lariat stickers slapped on the side you think?

Bartak1,
You missed the Power pedals by one year (2000)
and the lighted vanity visor mirrors by two years.

Ford does this because they basically have to sell the same truck every year for seven years.

You have bolt holes behind your 1999 driversside pillar for a grab handle. But the 1999 only has a passengerside grab handle.

Planned for but, backed out in 1999 so they could move the 2000 when they were both on the lot.

The supercrew that began in 2000 was jump started and had features not available until 2001 in the other trim lines.

Your 1999 has a driverside cubby that was removed in 2000 to save 69 cents. It was returned in 01 or 02 due to much outcry of Ford being too cost conscious.
