New Project

I need some tips from anyone who has done a project like this before. I am going to drop a bored out 350 V8 into a 94 Ranger, regular cab. I am going to have to do some framework, and I will be getting a new transmission. I will be creating a custom rear differential from the suburban that the engine came from with posi. We are going to do a lot of work on the engine, hoping to get around 500HP out of it. Any idea on what I am in for? I am planning on a couple of years to complete the truck.

Why are you using a Chevrolet small block instead of a Ford? I've done several 350 swaps in late model S10's, and even a 572 big block in one (built a complete tube chassis for that truck). What exactly do you need to know? For a basic 350 swap, you'll need to weld in new motor mounts and modify the trans crossmember, and possibly 'massage' the firewall with a hammer to gain distributor clearance. Don't forget a larger radiator, the stock one isn't up to the task for a V8.

yeah, why a gm block?? Use a 351 winsor bore and stroke it to 427 and call it good. There are kits made for doing the swap with the ford engine.

Well I have never done this before. I have the 350 and the ranger, so I just thought that would be the way to go. But maybe I should just buy an s-10 or a blazer. or should I buy a ford v8?

I think it’s a really cool idea of dropping the 350 Chevy motor into the 94 Ford Ranger. Hell of a sleeper…

If it was mine, when I was done dropping the motor in I would put some SRT-10 badges on it then everybody would be happy…

YES, you should buy a Ford V8. Maybe a nice 351w or even a big ol` 460.

because there are massive amounts of parts available for the chevy eng. also considered by many to be easier to work on.
keep the chev eng. it's what you have available, then you don't have to swear allegiance to any one co. didn't the sub have a tranny?

chev eng in ford body swaps have been done for many years.
