Classic cars...

Okay, I know something like this was posted once before, but it's been a while, and I'm bored...

In case you don't know I have a '67 Belvedere II Convertable that has been a long drawn out project that's been on hold for several years, but is starting to pick up some here lately... I can't wait!

I had big big plans originally, but little funds, little garage, and little time... like most I'm sure... So, I decided to go back "close" to original just to get her back on the road then make changes as time and money allow... Well, I've been stripping the car, and collecting parts hoping to get her painted this summer. I've also decided to stick with the original 318. They don't get much respect, and you rarely see someone keep them in a project, and I like being different, however I got a call last night from Dad who has located a wrecked Dakota V8, so now I'm thinking about putting that drivetrain in my Belvedere... Which was part of my original big dream...

So, my question for you fine Ford folks... How many of you out there have something older with a newer technology? My big plans were originally to incorporate all the electronics, safety and conveniences of the Dakota into my Belvedere... Power windows, locks, tilt, cruise even try to get the ABS working... Basically a Dakota with a Belvedere body, then add alarm, remote start, window modules like my F150...

So, anyway I'm bored, and if you have something, please share... even if you've just added Holley fuel injection to an otherwise stock Mustang... I'd love to hear about it, and see pictures...

Sounds cool closer9, I like the something old meets something new. Although that sounds like a lot of work to do windows and all, but would be nice.
At the Detroit auto show they had a Cuda, dont remember whay year, like 69or 70 with a vper motor in it and it looks sweet. The key is to make it look like it was original.
Sounds like a long project might just get a little longer.

Sled...

I had a 69 Nova for a short while that I had big plans for. 350 Vortec Engine, 4L60-E tranny, power everything. Talk about MONEY though. If you can get the dakota cheap, then go for it. Buying one vehicle(the Dakota) with all the things you want on it will save you a lot f money compared to buying everything sepatate. Plus, if most things are still intact, then you can see how everything goes in if you have any problems(ie, p.windows/locks) The biggest thing besides cost is all the wiring.
Thats a PITA.

I not sure if that ABS is a possibility either, not that I dont think your not capable, but I dont think its technically possible, I may be wrong though(I am a lot)

Pretty much ALL the wiring/computer stuff from the Dakota needs to go to your Belvedere. Anymore if you cut something off of a newer vehicle then the whole thing wont run.

Good luck and keep us posted about your progress

I have a 68 Torino that hasn't been driven in over 12 years. I got it about 2 years ago from my parents (they had it for about 6 years). When they gave it to me they couldn't find the keys for it so we never had a chance to see if it still ran or not. Over the winter we were able to get a lock set (ignition & 2 doors) for $11. Installed the ignition over the last weekend & the dang thing turned over (after hubby put some gas directly into the carb). Next step is to get new fluids, hoses, plugs & filters. Plus all 4 tires are dry rot from not moving. Good news is the body is just now showing signs of rust (thanks to huby taking over the garage this winter to work on his Lightning.

I want to get it running with the 302 it has but hubby wants to get something newer in there. I also want to keep the stock radio but install a hidden system just so it can have the stock look (again hubby wants to remove the radio & upgrade). Other upgrades we have talked about is the brakes (which need replacing anyways) & maybe the fuel system. I only want to do minor body changes, shave the antennea & the truck lock (since we had to drill it out to get in there).

This picture was taken in the late 90's when we helped my parent's move to their new house up north. I haven't taken anything new since nothing has been done to it since then.
