Stocks - Shares - Questions

Any of you guys know about stocks and stuff?
I found an old file folder which belonged to my dad this afternoon, and in it are a few certificates for various stocks dating back to 1976.

I remember he dabbled in penny stocks here and there, so I don't expect these companies to be anything big, but how do I find out if these companies are still together and determine if these shares have any value?

I have no clue when it comes to this stuff.

This is what the certificates say

ENERTEX DEVELOPMENTS INC.
"Habibi's dad" is the registered holder of 300 fully paid and non assessable shares without par value in the Capital of ENERTEX DEVELOPMENTS INC.

There's another one for 500 shares in Goshawk Mines Limited (dated Jan 1977)

Another certificate for 500 shares in Goshawk Mines Limited (dated Oct 1976)

There's even receipts here that say he paid about $750 Canadian bucks for these shares back in 1976.
From what I remember, the US and Canadian dollar were very close back then so this was quite a bit of cash for the time.

Anyone know a website to look for the info?

Thanks!

I would say that you need to find a stock broker.

These sound like junior mining stock and quite possibly are no longer around, either bought up or bankrupt.

The stockbroker can open an account for you with these shares. To the best of my knowledge you woundn't pay for this. They make their fees of selling and buying.

Who knows.... these things could have increased 5000% ince 1976.

Thanks bro,

Going to see some dude at BMC in 30 minutes.
Worst case scenario, they are worthless.
2nd worst scenario. they are worth $28.14 Canadian, and cashing them in will command a fee of $78.
3rd case, maybe they are now all Microsoft shares, and now I can finally get the supercharger I've been eyeing, LMAO

I'll let you know the outcome!

You just about need a stock broker or lawyer to track down the history of the company. If they company was bought by any company still around then you should own something. If they just went belly up then oh well. Good luck!

I imagine those are canadian companies. Your best bet is a broker, or somebody that has access to historical data. I doubt a library would have anything on old companies unless it was some sort of buisiness library.

Enertex Developments Inc is now Ontzinc Corporation
Exchange Rate: 1 new for 12.6 old

I couldn't find anything on Goshawk Mines Limited specifically.

OTZ - Last (0.095) - Stockwatch.com

That makes your Enertex worth about $2.30 if the company stock has never split. I'll see if I can find anything more.

It appears that Ontzinc Corporation used to be onother name under the stock symbol PAN. I don't see any stock splits in the recent past. If it's only been worth a few cents I doubt it's ever split. I have no idea how the canadian markets work. I have a hard enough time with US markets.

hopefully that is more information than what you had.

VG, you are quite right about Enertex,
I met with a stockbroker this morning.

The 300 original Enertex shares are now 27 shares of the new company, and they are worth about 10 cents each.

The Goshawk shares (1,000) did a reverse split and have a current value of about 140 Canadian bucks.

BLEH!!

It was exciting for a couple of hours until I found out.
Dreaming about a new supercharger and 6 inch lift were soon crushed when reality reared its ugly head, haha

Thanks for the help, I may just frame one of the certificates because they look kind of cool.

Regards to all
Habibi

Yeah, sometimes you get lucky. Too bad it wasn't shares of Microsoft or something. From 1976, well was MS even incorporated then?

Oh well, maybe you'll stumble across another one that's worth something.
