From Mustang... to truck

Was browsing my aol directory and came across the pictures of my old Mustang.

That thing was f#*%ing SLAMMED. I remember how slow I had to go over speedbumps and any protrusions in the road.

And now I drive a 4x4 truck.

I remember when I drove the truck off the lot... my first thought was, How the blazes is this thing going to fit in the lines on the road - lol.

/random thoughts

Blame GayOL, hehe.

It was a couple things, really.

I had modded the suspension on the Mustang pretty much as far as was within my means for autocrossing at A&M, but it was still pretty slow on the straights (most of the people in the car club had F-bodies, heh). I didn't want to drop a few grand on a blower or turbo (and I'm not a fan of nitrous), and an N/A 99+ Mustang can only go so fast with bolt-ons. LS1 > Mustang

I was also moving to a part of the country (I moved last December) where I would be exposed to/driving in snow.

I lived in Texas and had just blown $1k on Michelin Pilot Sports that August for the stang (if you check those out on Tirerack, they have an N/A for snow traction rating - They are PHENOMENAL in wet and dry, though... one of the best investments handling-wise).

I didn't find out I'd been accepted to the vet school here until November, and I just wasn't too keen on having a RWD ponycar (even with studded snow tires) in Colorado.

I idly toyed with the idea of buying one of the new Dodge trucks since they had great financing going on and I was looking at spending $20-$25k on a truck. But I would've been stuck with the smaller of the V8s and fewer options (though I did like the idea of having a manual tranny).

I'd always liked the F-150s (I'm the only one in my family who buys Ford, heh), and I was just kind of searching around on the internet for trucks when I saw my truck's ad. It was at a Lexus dealership in Dallas. I didn't want a regular or super cab, as I reasoned if I'm going to be driving a hugeass vehicle, I might as well be able to fit a lot of people in it.

4x4 was a requirement, and I wanted the biggest V8 available.

Well, there was this gorgeous truck sitting on the lot at Sewell Lexus. It had everything I wanted; 40k miles, 4x4, the big V8, Supercrew, AND it was a Lariat. They only wanted $20k for it, so I made the drive up to check it out... I was a little apprehensive about why it was going for so cheap, but it was a used Ford, afterall, sitting on a Lexus lot.

Soon as I saw it, I knew I had to have it. I took it for a spin and said I'd take it.

Cool

I plan on having alot of fun with my truck down at A&M next semester assuming Im not drunk all the time

We'll probably have our own house, and one of the guys has a GF that is 21, so that means we can basically have all the alcohol we need

Heh, sweet. Once you've been around for a bit you'll figure out where you can get served.

I used to go to this pool hall/bar called P.O.E.T.s that was right by my apartment (it's in the shopping center at Texas & Harvey) that was pretty cool about serving minors. Dunno if they still are, but worth a try. Don't bother trying at the Chicken or Fitzwilly's or any of the other mainstream places, they're pretty tight about things.

You'll make a lot of friends who are over 21, too; you'd be surprised how many upperclassmen will be in lower level classes.

Have fun! I loved A&M and College Station. If you want good Margaritas, go to On the Border, good mexican food is Jose's: down Texas just into Bryan. Unf, and the thing I miss the most: FREEBIRDS! I would kill to have a Freebirds here in Denver. Chipolte really doesn't cut the mustard on burrito places.

My friends have told me about Freebirds. They said you basically get a trashcan lid full of nachos, and it just looks like *****, but tastes damn good. (I think that was freebirds... )

Thanks for the tips, I know theyll come in handy

I've visited A&M maybe 4 or 5 times, and every time was a blast. Went to the maroon and white game, as well as the tu game. I cant wait to move down there
