Differentials/Rear Ends are designed to be submerged in water. It won't hurt anything.

Actually, one of the tests the engineers do is Heat one up by running it real hard and submerging it. A Hot differential suddenly cooled has the possibility of causing trouble. They're aware of the scenario and have the rear Diffs set up to handle it.

I don't think Ford agrees with you. This is right out of the owners manual.

If the front or rear axle is submerged in water, the axle lubricant should
be replaced.

If I had replaced my 'rear-end' lube (insert backdoor joke here) everytime my axle went under water I'd be broke by now! Come to think of it, I don't know any of my buddies (some boat owners some not) that have ever replaced it...

My '99 4X4 Off Road was deep in water thousands of times. I had a 12' flat bottom john boat that I fished out of everday in college. We'd load it up in the bed of the truck, and when we got to the lake, I'd back down so far that the boat would float out. Water all the way up into the bed.

Best truck I ever owned.

Yea, seriously, I've got a 4X4 off road truck that I can't take through a stream deeper than 1/3 of my wheel so I don't get the axel wet? I don't know what You guys do with Your trucks, but mine gets driven hard and put away Wet!

Sounds like Ford is just covering their Butt's.

Did I mention my Father-in-law is an Engineer at Dana and is the one that told me about these tests because HE performed them....
