Bull Fighting

well ok, i wasnt really bull fighting like they do in spain, but i fought mine pretty good today. i started by trying to walk him some and he flipped out. he tried to run, but i quickly caught control. next he decided to charge me. ended up with his horn hitting me right on the bottom of the chin. didnt break skin or anything but jolted my whole jaw and made me bite my tongue pretty good. thats not all though. next thing i knew i was falling on the ground holding on to the rope. turns out on my way down he kicked me right in the spine. i guess the adrenaline rush made me not even notice getting kicked. after that he started to turn around for more, i let go of the rope and crawled away. someone else grabbed the rope and dragged the thing back in its pen, with a big fight. i got home and looked at my back in the mirror, and there is a clearly visible hoof print dead in the center of my back. it hurts to breathe, and it hurts to put pressure on my jaw. if it still hurts in a couple days, ill go to the doctor and get some X-rays, but right now i think its just briuses. really though its a good bull, it just has never been walked before so its scared and doesnt know what to do. when im not trying to pull its halter i can walk right up to him and pet him. i may have lost the first battle but i will win the war. of all the bulls ive ridden, this has hurt me more than any, and its only 1/3 of the size of the others (hes about 600 pounds).

EDIT: here are some pics of the calf in my gallery https://www.f150online.com/galleries...w.cfm?num=6038

Never been kicked by a bull before, but did take a good shot to the chest from one of my horses. He never kicks, not sure if I just suprised him or what. Anyhow, kicked me square in the chest. Neve saw it coming. Sent me sailing, couldnt even breath for like 5 min. Had a big a$$ hoof print on my chest. Did the same thing, let it go for a couple days, still hurt to breath. Finally went to the Dr. Said I bruised a lung from the impact. Hurt for a good fricken week, luckily didnt break any ribs or get kicked in the face.

Sled...

today hes calmed down a whole lot. i can walk right in the pen with him and walk up to him and pet him. it sucks getting kicked. i can feel it on my chest right through where he kicked my back. but today hes just like a puppy, except he lets out an occasional really deep sounding moo

Wink Be Careful

I have a good friend that "used" to be a Pro bull fighter on the Budwiser tour. He now walks with a cane, and has a colostamy bag from a bull's horn while at the Nationals in Vegas.

He is not quite that same.

do you mean a bull rider? i ride bulls too. i think its a major rush every time i climb on a bull. 2200 pounds of power right between my legs. ive actually gotten pretty good at it too. won several thousand dollars doing it. never been really hurt by them either. nothing more than what happened with my bull

Wink No, he was a "bull fighter"

I think that they are also known as clowns in the rodeo circuit.

However he would attend events to participate in showing off his ability to stay just ahead of and out of the way of the bulls in the ring.

He was very good at it, until that night at the World Finals in
Vegas.

yeah thats a rodeo clown. they distract the bulls so the cowboy can get away safely. their job is actually more dangerous than the bullrider's. they have to run up to the bull and do anything they can to distract them so the cowboy can run. i dont get why cowboys and rodeo clowns dont get along though, these guys are puttin their necks on the line so they can get away safely.

they get the name rodeo clowns because they dress like clowns (obviously) and do funny things to distract the bulls. they gotta stay pretty close to the bull or it will lose interest and go back for the cowboy.

I recommend a good cattle prod - and don't forget to check the batteries....but then again, the cattle I deal with are destined for the slaughter house.

wow tx that's a good looking "little calf" looks like losing too many battles with that one could get costly though.

so this is for a class right? what do you have to do for the class, just care for the calf or show it, or ?

riding bulls, sorry that's something i've never had a single thought about doing. i'll just bow down to you for it. would love to see some photos though, love to watch it.

do you still ride? when and where? may want a road trip.

good luck with your little pet.

thanks wild. im really surprised at the progress he has made so far, without anymore injuries. i will have him trained while he is still small. he is a really gentle bull. people have always said Brahman cattle are real mean and tempermental. from what i have seen with this and the others the man i bought from had, they are the exact opposite. well the guy said they can be tempermental if you mistreat them. he told me just never hit them or slap them and it wont be a problem. they are the smartest breed of cattle, so that makes it even easier.

its not really for a class, but i am in the FFA (Future Farmers of America), its an extension of the agriculture classes. its for people who enjoy animals and want to learn how to care for them. i plan on being a small and large animal veterinarian so it will really help me doing this. we care for and show all of our own animals. we do all of the work on the animals like training, feeding, water, and everything else. they tend to get more like pets with us because we spend so much time caring for them.

sorry, no pics. ive tried to have my parents take pics but we dont have the special cameras to take pics of it. need something special to take the pics because i am moving so fast a normal camera wont turn out. i still ride all the time. usually every weekend. now with my bull i will be able to take him to shows and most shows have a rodeo at night, so ill ride there. that will be every weekend. it is places all over that i ride. i go through most of southeast texas to ride. i wont go more than 200 miles away from houston to ride. so anywhere from Port OConnor to Austin to Nacogdoches. you can find me anywhere between there any weekend. i dont think your gonna take that far of a road trip though, thats a long way. love to have ya see me someday though, hopefully it will be somewhere big like RodeoHouston though

RodeoHouston is a 3 week rodeo, one of the biggest rodeos in the world. only the best of the best get to compete there. its my dream to compete there one day. we also have the worlds biggest livestock show in the world during those 3 weeks. its usually during february-march. this year they made it march 2-21 so it would be partially during spring break. they havent announced next years dates, but the place to go to stay informed would be www.hlsr.com they have all the info you need there. the livestock show attracts people from all over the country. the Brahman portion of the show happens to be the international Brahman show, so it brings people and their cattle from everywhere in the world. its the biggest event in houston. IMO its a much better event than the superbowl was. in fact, the rodeo is on the same field that the superbowl was played on.

well now you got me going. i've been trying to think of where to go this year. it's a shame i missed that one although there's always next year.
so what would be a good rodeo to come see if i could make it happen. some time in june or aug, july we're doing the indy races here locally. early july would be ok though. i got that new camper i have to use.
i go see the rodeos up here but looking at that sight itseems as though rodeos here can't hold a candle to the ones there .............................(i know......duh.)

just don't expect me to try it with you aint happenin'

right now i dont have any dates for july yet. i only plan ahead maybe 2-3 weeks. im sure the rodeos i compete in are the same as what you go to. its just the big 3 week rodeo here. thats the only big one i can think of anywhere around here. well theres San Antonio and Fort Worth, but there not near the size of Houston's rodeo.
