hardwood floor

Has anyone ever refinished hardwood floor?? I recently bought a house and it had the nasty 70s **** in it. Well, I took a peek under the carpet, and found the whole house is hardwood flooring. It has been finished and is in good condition but I want that new finish. My question is what is best for resealing the floor once it has been sanded??

Urathane. But dont get advice from any big box lumber, do it center ( lowes, etc.) Call a flooring store or a wood refinishing place and find out the best way to put it down. Its not that hard, just hard to explain on here. Also go to Michael Holagan.com, think he has some sources for refinishing floors.

I've done it.

Biggest wird of advice... DO NOT USE A DRUM SANDER!These are too aggressive and meant for professionals only. Go for the less aggressive pad sander. Buy too much sandpaper. You can always return it. Do this in the summer whne you can open the windows. Make sure you put a wet towel in all duct openings to prevent sawdust from entering the ductwork (this is a fire hazard)

As far as refinishing, there are several finishes availabe that are meant for floors. A trip to any big box store will show you whats available. When I did mine, I used an applicator meant for floors. It was flat, rectangular wood with a lambswool applicator and a broom handle. You then just mop the varithane all over the floor.

This is a remarkably easy job if you do 1 thing.... HAVE PATIENCE. Plan on taking a very long time to do this. Follow all instructions on the finish with regards to curing time.
