New Owner, New Member
Hello all,
I just became the proud owner of a 1999 F150XLT SCab this past Friday and joined the Forum yesterday. This past August I bought a 1930 Ford Model A Town Sedan and got a really good deal on the trailer with which to tow it. Needless to say, my little 1991 GMC Sonoma just didn't have the braun to tow this combo around.
My wife didn't want to get into another big car payment after just having paid off our '99 Plymouth Grand V'ger. I was seriously Jones'n on a new '04 F150/250 SCab or Screw, but she wouln't budge. I happened by a little shopping center with the kids several weeks ago and lo & behold this '99 was parked there for sale. Asking price was $9500. I called the owner, and he indicated that there was already someone interested in it. I asked him to take my # in case it should fall through.
About a week and a half later, I had just gotten home from work and my wife tells me the guy called back. I arranged to meet him at the truck and loaded up our 2 girls (semi-excited) and the wife (not excited would be putting in mildly).
We checked out the truck inside and out. Made certain the child seat would fit on the rear bench, and took it out for a test drive. The drive went well, my wife and I talked it over while driving and she was forced to admit that we seemed to have a good find there.
We returned, and I told him we were interested, but I wanted my mechanic to look it over. PA has yearly inspection and the current inspection was due to expire the end of May. I suggested that while my mechanic was checking out the truck he go ahead and inspect it - if it passed, I would pay the inspection and if not... the owner chimed in he would pay for any repairs! Took the truck in and got a call from my mechanic - it passed yearly inspection "by the numbers" but the front brakes were within a couple of thousand miles of needing replacement. $200 was the estimate (pads, turning rotors, etc.) Everthing else looked fine, no leaks, no underside problems - in essence, all looked good.
I phoned the owner and told him the news and he said we could either get the brakes replaced or he could take $200 off the price. I said the latter was fine. Everything just fell into place. This past Friday we went to the Tag & Title sevice in Red Lion and transferred the title and I got it registered.
So here's the scoop from the sticker (folded and kept with the owner's manual):
1999 F-150 4X2 Supercab
XLT 139" WB Styleside
4.6L EFI V-8
Electronic 4-Spd auto O/D
LT245/75R160 BSW All-Season (recently replaced w/ like tires)
Exterior - Oxford White Clearcoat / Silver Frost Clearcoat Accent
Interior - Med Graphite Cloth Captains Chairs
3.55 LS Axle
6050# GVWR
Sliding rear window
Trailer Towing Group, Class III
A/C, power locks, windows, mirrors, Cruise Control, Tilt steering
4-W ABS/4-W Disc
85,000 miles, $9300. (Our '99 V'ger which we purchased new has 127,000 miles - 85k seems reasonable...) Kelly blue book rated this condition level excellent inside and out (we went through the "interview" questions rather than assign it that condition on our own.)
This past weekend I purchased the hitch and ball. I still need to get a brake controller. Any suggestions?
Anyway, we feel we did well on this deal. I most certainly welcome any and all comments. Thanks for taking the time to read this (long-winded) post.
Cheers,
Jay

Drop your spare and look for rub marks in the sidewall making it unusable. A donut shaped piece of plwood or carpet will protect it.
Also make sure your spare is the same size as what is on the truck. If it is not, remember to only use it on the front due to the LS rear end.
Congrats.

Hey all,
Thanks for the replies. Sure feels good to get the positive vibes from those in the know.
We've really enjoyed the truck this week, comfortable and a pleasure to drive.
I'm scratchin' my head a little here.... my wife has driven it to work every day this week - and she was the most disinterested one in getting a truck!
Now to pop the ole "For Sale" sign on the Sonoma. she's been a good truck to us for 13 years.
Be seeing you...
Cheers,
Jay

Hey JP
I would say that was a great deal. You will be happy with it and am sure the wife will be too. I got my 99 reg cab flare with 60k miles. The wife was like do we really need another truck rite now. Now that is all she ever wants to take to got to the store or travel. She would drive it all the time if I let her. She has a 99 Exploder and now she thinks its to small and prefers the truck.
So watch out, it may become truck.
Anyway, welcome aboard, your in great company here. Now time to start modding.
