Unhappy Quick computer question

Ok, in my laptop, Compaq reinstalled Windows ME when they put in new hard drive. I have a full version of XP that I want to install. I think I need to go to MSDOS and format the C drive so it will be clean and can then proceed to install XP.

How do I go about getting into MSDOS where it will allow me to format my harddrive???

Actually

Most people have 2 partitions on their hard drive. One is for the OS and the the other if for all the information on their HD. Im pretty crazy though and I have 2 HD with 2 partitions each
