Talking Preperation H for that Hemi

I was witness to one of the coolest things I will probably ever see in my life. I was on a four lane highway today and I came up behind a 04 F150 FX4 screw. He was next to an Off Road 1500 Hemi Quad cab. When the light turned green they both dropped the hammer, the Ford spanked the Dodge off the line and just continued to gain ground. the Dodge had an exhaust on it and you could hear him giving it all it had. COOLEST THING I EVER SAW

I hope I do not regret posting this. Let me be very clear, I really like my 04 Lariat Screw and I am very happy I have not had any of the issues often mentioned on this board. My choices, like all of you, were Chevy, GMC, Dodge, the Mad Toaster, and Ford. I selected the Ford. However, I think I would have to see a 300hp truck beat a lighter 345hp truck with my own eyes to believe it. I know I would not pick any crap with a HEMI unless it was pulling a trailer. Lets remember that the HEMI is not a standard offering in any of the ½ ton Dodge trucks while the 5.4 3V is a standard in some Ford F150s.

A couple of weeks ago I happened to meet up with a new Mad Toaster ext cab, still outfitted with temporary tags, at a light. I could tell he wanted to test my Ford so I casually reached over and cut off my AC and sure enough when the light changed he was off. I punched it but there was going to be no catching up let alone pulling ahead and at around 75 I backed off since the posted limit was 45 and I am really too old for this type of foolishness. A couple of lights up I rolled down my window with the intention of exchanging some pleasentries. The gentleman in the Mad Toaster rolled down his window as well but before I said anything he said something like too bad Fords are so slow. I looked at him and said, I can make my truck go faster but your truck is always going to be ugly. I think he invited me to engage in some sexual activity and then signaled to me that I was #1, at least I think that is what he was telling me, as he was turning at the intersection. I rolled my window up and turned my AC back on.

I would have no problem giving a go with a Chevy or GMC but I would not go against a HEMI in a drag race and without a reflash from Troyer I do not think I would pick any stuff with a Mad Toaster either.

Oh well, as I sad, I am too old to be street racing and I did not purchase a nearly 3 ton truck because I thought it would make a good drag racer.

Good post Screwdrive...thanks for keeping things in perspective.

BTW - do you have a gallery set up for your truck?

I don't do any racing so the hemi vs 5.4 debate is of no interest. Besides, I'm proud to be getting 14 mpg. I might be in a little trouble with the wife if it suddenly drops down to 8 or 9.

I did have the pleasure of a Titan owner having to park his red truck next to mine at Walmart. I have to say I'm not impressed. Besides being ugly I couldn't find one thing that I liked better or wished Ford would have thought of. UGLY!!!. Really cool looking "Chromed out Superduty-style tow mirrors"...NOT.

Why is it that the mad toasters never want to give the L a go? Maybe it's because I've only seen 2 on the road here since they were released.

I concur with Screwdrive, well written.
At 45, my "gotta have the fastest truck on the block" days are over as well, although i do like hearing the rumble of the V8 ,(reason for the flowmaster) .
In all fairness i did test drive the Dodge 1500 4.7, to make a long story short...the Ford was simply a better overall truck, end of sentance.
The Titan?....didn't even give it a thought.

I agree....to a certain extent. It depends on the type of F-150 you have. In terms of head to head combat with a comparable truck the F-150 owns. I have a "stripper" as Mike Troyer would put it. A regular cab, short bed, 5.4 liter, with the 3.73 LS rear and I have beaten the same Dodge HEMI Sport on several occasions at a red light start. He has never beat me and I am bone stock. This could be due to several reasons: I have a lighter truck, lower gearing or a better engine as far as torque and horsepower curves are considered...who knows. I have test driven the Titan and was not impressed. I could take one all the way. That extra 5 horsepower and 10 pounds of torque do no justice with a heavier truck than mine (the lightest Titan has a curb weight of 5100 pounds. I am around 4950 I believe)

If you compare 4x4's the Ford loses the race with Titans and Dodges but wins in the pulling category and every other category.

A stripped F-150 is no joke when it comes to racing. Yeah, I am 26 and love to race so I special ordered my F-150 for that reason.

BTW, another race I encountered. My friend has an Acura RSX Type S, the 200 HP version in a 2900 pound car with an aftermarket exhaust and intake(figure around 220 with these mods). We were headed to lunch today and tested out the challenge. From a red light I blew his friggin doors off and he never caught up at all up to 70 mph when I hit the brakes. Then he insisted we go from a rolling start with him in first gear(manual gets a better start this way). We did and it was closer but still no cigar; I pulled away slowly but steadily up to 85mph this time and I was a good cars length ahead. These types of Acuras are very popular amongst the IMPORT freaks and considered fast. Numbers are 15.0 sec 1/4 and 0 to 60mph in 6.8 seconds in thses cars. My friend was pissed for a while because he figured his modifications were wasted money.

So, I choose the Ford. Agreed, the heavier SCAB, SCREW 4x4 and 4x2 models get eaten in the races. But, they are for pulling power and thats what they do best.

Actually, just looked it up. Base Curb Weight for my truck is 4,925 lbs. Not too bad.
