Computer help

Ok, my computer has been acting up lately. The problem is when I click the Internet Icon, it goes directly to the MSN homepage like it's supposed to. But when I type in a website in the search box and click search, a screen pops up that says "You do not have permission to access this website." I've ran Norton Antivirus and there are no viruses. I've defragged it, ran speed disk cleanup, etc. It finally stopped acting up long enough for me to get on this website to ask for help. I think it was just my local internet provider messing with the system or something. I'm not sure though, and I hope if that was it, that they got it fixed. But why would it let me on my homepage but nowhere else? It shows in the bottom right hand corner of my monitor that my internet connection is working, but I can't search the internet???

I think MSN crashed for a bit.....wife said she was having the same trouble and walked away. I got on, kept trying and everything seems ok now.

What browser are you using? Did you try using a different one? Were you connected and getting an IP address? Could you ping out while this was happening?

It sounds like you have some sort of spy program thats messing with your computer. It happens to my computers all the time, i hate it. Download this program http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=home . Then install it and run it. Youll be suprised how many little programs are messing around with your computer. This should fix your problem.

Thanks, but it's been doing great today? I don't know what happened but I got a letter in the mail today saying my local internet service provider is shutting the network down on the 14th to repair some fiber optic lines that had been damaged when a truck hit them or somehting like that. And all cable and high speed internet service will be out from 7AM-7PM on the 14th. They must be tampering with the lines or something. That's my guess.

Not an uncommon problem. When it happened to me, I solved it by downloading the 128 bit security version of IE.

I believe that's all you need to do.
