saw the body of the truck in your picture.

the first one i built had a hard plastic body and i just painted the outside of it like normal, the other two had the same body material as yours (lexan?).

i was suprised to find that you paint the inside on the clear bodys. i remember looking at it prior to paint thinking it would look like crap when i painted it, but i was shocked to see how nice they look when your all done.

you might want to first operate it without the body on it to get a little used to the car. a few guys at my work bought them around the same time and we ran them in our parking lot after work. we had a lot of crashing going on, and the bodys got beat up pretty quick. it might be a good idea to get a little use with the car to see how it operates, then put the body on later after you know the vehicles quirks.

So you've came to a roadblock eh? Don't worry, just take your time and do it right. You will need a 2-channel radio. They usually come with 2 servos and a reciever. But since your going to be switching to an electronic speed controller, you will only need one servo for the steering. Because the 2nd servo controls the throttle position contact on the mechanical speed controller. Go to www.towerhobbies.com and scroll down the page to the bottom left where it says "CATALOGS", and click on "ANNUAL CATALOG" and you can look at the pages of the catalog if you click on them. You can find batteries, radio controllers, chargers, paint, tires, wheels, shocks, etc...just about anything you can imagine for an r/c car or truck. You can even get a free "Car/Truck Flyer" in the catalog section. Hope I helped you out.

Clonetek,

On the Tower Hobbies website, go to "Annual catalog", click on "view online". You'll see the "radio" section along with everything else you'll need. Click on "radios", then click "next page" three times. They have a good deal on Futaba radios. I think I saw a pistol grip 2 channel radio with 2 servos and reciever for $49.99. That'd be a good radio to start out with. Hope I helped!

Something like this

Radio, servo and ESC in a package.

I'd explain more but I'm in a major rush to get out of work now.

Man you guys are giving me the RC itch again...I had an RC car that I beat to death, then I got a completely new one for free when it broke! I only paid for some extra body clips and antenna tube..

The thing still runs, but the speed selector is broken

RC cars are so much fun...

I love the things. I've had a Tamiya Super Champ, Tamiya Frog, a boat, rc10b3(was my racer), and currently have a rc10t2 and rc10gt. The little gas GT is great. Such a fun sound. You can get really creative on the painting too. I've done some decent ones.

I've sold all my electric powered rc's. Now I have a Duratrax MT Pro with the .16 engine and 2-speed tranny. It used to be a monster truck, but I've put low profile Proline tires on my 2.2" wheels. Looks sharp. Now all I need is a cool body to put on it. Maybe something like a 32' roadster or something. Oh, I had my gas truck clocked @ 41 mph using 20% nitro by a police officer I know. That bad boy is hella fast for a monster truck with undersized tires!

I saw that truck on the towerhobbies website...I wish I had the money :\

$140 for the truck, plus another $40 for the nitro kit, plus another $50 for the radio and servos :\

My Tamiya...

I don't know anything about R/C's but I purchased this one fully assembled. Took it out and had some really spectacular crashes with it as I learned. I have a great time chasing seagulls in a parking lot near my home though.

I emailed Bill Murray yesterday & talked about what i need/want.

I think i'll go ahead and buy some mid range stuff, so i can get a better R/C vehicle later.

can i use these batteries?
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXBBD3&P=7

the kit needs 7.2v racing pack

what about 2 of these?
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXDNY2&P=7

Bill suggested getting a FM radio. I like this one:
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...I=LXNR85**&P=0

i can upgrade to rechargeable batteries on it..

i wish it came with 1 servo & the speed control as a kit.
Maybe Bill will have something in stock.

Here's a couple of speed controls with reverse.
should i stick with the same brand as the radio?

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXUY13&P=0

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXUY14&P=0

Here's a list of all the speed controls w/reverse
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/WTI0093p?&C=MJD

and finally, what about a decent ac/dc charger?

this is what tower hobbies suggests with the 2 pack of batteries i posted first.

First question to ask yourself, how much do you want to spend? This can be an expensive, especially at first when you are buying things.

Batteries

Any of the batteries you listed will work fine. The higher the MAH rating the longer the batteries will last. NIMH's have more capacity then NICAD's, but some people say that you get more of a punch with NICAD's, I say you won't care. So go for the NIMH's, slightly higher priced but longer run times.

If you want to get alot of packs:
http://www.stormerhobbies.com/cgi-bi...B&showbig=6809

Radios

I'm kind of an Airtonics fan. If you want a FM radio and a combo (servo/ESC) how about this:
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...I=LC5118**&P=1

Speed Controls

Futaba ESC are decent.
Novak ESC are great.
The Associated Quantom is pretty good, I'm using that one on my micro RS4. It's tiny.

The Novak Rooster is cheaper and larger, can handle down to 15 turn motors, that may be the better choice for you if get an ESC seperately.

Chargers

The MRC charger you linked to is a pretty good charger, but that is the one I said needs to have an fan put in it b/c it can get hot and false peak. There directions are somewhere online where they attach a PC case fan to the charger, 2 wires and 1 capacitor to solder, then it runs cooler and more reliable (less false peaks).

This one works good also:

FM radio would definitely be nice, but I dont know if it would be worth the extra money for him. I was running AM on a gas for a while and didnt have any problems. If he has the money to burn then I agree to go with the FM.
