From a state where people totally discard their cats and go with straight pipes I can say:

1. They are too loud
2. They seem to destroy a lot of torque from the engine
3. They rap out way too much, mabey I am just getting old
4. They are illeagle you are required to have some sort of silencing device.

I run 36" glasspacks on my truck near the exit tips, this prevents exhaust rap and gives it a mellow tone. My tips exit downward over the rear axel (it is illeagle, needs to exit out from under the truck) just in case anyone cared

Welcome abord scott

so Ford?

do you guys still have that 100 mph speed limit up there? And all you have to do to is run some kind of muffler in return? I'm there
Seriously, my truck is very quiet compared to most here locally......assisted no doubt by the 4 cats that still remain.
I'm in my 40's........but I remember what LOUD sounds like. This isn't it. Interior noise is minimal with no muffler but exterior levels is what makes it. If I can stand it, I let my gf drive it away, just to hear it leave

PS 100 mph....Damn! I could keep my foot in it after it hits third at 80! Wow!

Nope, that went away in ??97?? when I was learning to drive. I guess the goverment threatened to take away funding if they did not lower the limit. I wish I could still go fast.

Welcome to the boards Scott!! A few tips to help you out while cruising around on the boards:

1. Knowledge around here is plentiful - ask if you have a problem with anything.

2. Check out the General care forum - alot of good info on keeping your truck looking beautiful.

3. Last but not least.............Dont EVER let lifegaurdjoe show you his "ring"

No, I have straight pipes and hollow cats, and it's LOUD!
I love the way it sounds, it's all Bristol-style.
