This is true, when they are they are about the same thickness. The sheetmetal on the trucks is very thin. A flareside outside bedwall is thicker and more durable made from fiberglass.

A fiberglass flareside truck weighs 65 pounds more than a similiarly equipped sheetmetal styleside shortbed, according to Fords' specifications.

That is some cool info, I did not realize it was that much thicker.

Even if fiberglass is not the best choice, they still look hella good

It is fairly easy to tell if you look inside the fuel filler door. I noticed on my SCrew when Igot it. Also behind the tail lights. At least it won't rust.
