Something I have never understood
Something I have never understood
I saw this today and it got me thinking because I have seen it before. So why do people put the bike racks that hook onto a trailer hitch on a truck?? Isn't that why trucks have beds on them. I can understand those types of racks on SUV's of cars, but on a truck?? I have seen this plenty of times, but it just got me thinking about it.
Me too. I was shopping for a bike rack, and there's tons of them. I was thinking the same thing. I ain't wasting my hitch (and $80) on a couple a bikes ya know? I guess I'll make one to fit in the bed this summer.
My pop up camper trailer has a bike rack on top, so I got that covered.

To each his own.
Maybe they are easier to load and unload off of a hitch rack, rather than climbing all over the bed and handing them down. My sister has a 4 bike rack that plugs into the hitch of her Land Rover. It is somewhat spring loaded, and when you unlatch it, the bike rack 'floats' the bikes down to where they touch the ground. You unload them, hit another switch, and brrrp, there it goes back into the locked position. Same for loading them, hit the lock, it comes down, roll the bike forward so that the frame touches the hook, hit the switch again and it raises them back up. It's not electric, but I couldn't think of another word to use besides 'switch'.
I always thought it was funny because the main reason you get a bike is for exercise, right? Then you go out and buy a rack like that to 'take the easy way out'??? O well, like I said...to each his own.

how the hell does it get in there, is there any good use for it?
Should I save it or throw it away?
God, I hate these tough decisions----
I mounted 2 of those quick release locking mechanisms that you stick your forks into on a 2x6 and then use a J hook with wing nut to secure the board ontop of the tie down brackets in my Screw.
Then I painted it black so it blends in with the bedliner so nobody sees it and tries to steal it.
I also used a large woodbit and drilled a hole throught the 2x6 and run a large cable lock through the board and around the bike frames and tires, so if you need to go in a store/restaurant etc they will have to steal 2 bikes, 2 detached tires, and a big *** board all in one big massive pile.

I don't need no stinking fancy bike rack. I just throw mine in the bed. When I get ready to ride, I get on the bike and jump it out of the truck

The only thing I've seen funnier than that is when I ride by the Gym and all of the parking places closest to the door are filled.
i just throw my bike in the bed. but when you get 4 or 5 bikes, they start stacking up and some people are **** and don't want their bike to get scratch. me, I don't care because i beat my bike on the trails anyway.
