Bug Deflectors

I recently saw bug deflectors somewhere that mount under the hood using the existing screws, instead of adhesive pads or drilling new holes. Can't find the website anymore.

Anyone know who makes them?

Is there something better out there than the deflectors that mount using existing screws?

Thanks

Do those things really work? I've never really understood their purpose. Anyone care to give me an in-depth explanation?

The one I have on my truck uses the existing screw holes. I believe there are 6 screws if I remember correctly. I think mine is made by Ventshade. So far in well over a year it has held on good.

As far as the purpose, most of the lower profile ones like I have on my truck do not really make that much of a difference. The older bug deflectors that used to be put on trucks were straight and were usually about 4 inches tall. That helped get rid of many of the bugs that would have just made it over the hood. Most now are curved and sit low. When an object hits the shield it is supposed to deflect it at a different angle. With either one, not everything will be deflected so in reality they really do not serve any real purpose. At least that is what I think.

In my opinion, I think bug deflecters, if the right kind, make the F150 look way better. I have one and would not take it off because I think it just looks better with it.

Yes they work! I love my bugshield, I think it looks good and it's very functional. It also helps with small stones and snow. It isn't that much of a rain deterrent, but I am sure that it helps a little bit with that, too. At any rate, it keeps my windshield quite a bit cleaner than before I had it.
Oh yeah, I have the `Bugshield Bugflector II`, and it also requires no drilling, and it doesn't rattle, and it fits perfectly.

I have the same one on my wife's truck. The only problem is it wears the paint under the hood. I put some tape under there wich seems to have stopped it. I have the EGR bug deflector on my Expi and it doesn't rub. It does require more permanent mounting though (screws and strong stick on stuff).

As far as them working, yeah they help. Before I got the one on the expi I had some lovebugs splattered across the hood. Well, I didn't get em off fast enough and it ate through the paint. The bug deflector will keep the bugs off the hood. It seems to keep more off the windsheild too, but not all.

I believe mine is a Bugflector II. I picked it up an Advance Auto for like $40, and it mounts in pre-existing holes under the hood.

They help w/ bugs. Before my entire windshield would be covered w/ bug guts, now only the top half is covered. Small bugs still hit low, but it is better than w/out one.

I don't know what year model truck you have, but most of the ones that Ford makes mount with the existing screws and holes.
I don't have pix of the install, but check out my gallery.

Typical liberal question. Our Constitution clearly states that it's purpose is Defense (not welfare by the way). A Bug Deflector is all about Defense and nothing else. I guess if you are a whining liberal you wouldn't have one. You would just stick your head out the window and holler, "Oh please Mister Bug, don't hurt me.". You see, the bug is the school yard bully. You want to give the school yard bully your milk money but, you don't have to. You can just ride behind a 'Right' conservative who went and bought a Bug deflector and will kill all the damn bugs out in front of you.

So, yeah you can ride around without a bug deflector in your libera-mobile and thank a god fearing, right Wing, bug deflector toting, conservative that you have the right to do so.

Nobody FL,

You are just an innocent victim who had their post hijacked by me so I could use it as a soapbox to release my torrent of maniacal political ramblings.

p.s
Did you mean "Whoever said I was a liberal?" like 'hey, I ain't'?

Or did you mean "Whoever said I was a liberal?" like 'hey, who ratted me out?

Burt, I know you love my post.
Feel free to replace 'bug deflector' with whatever is appropiate at the time and cut-n-paste the diatribe into any GD thread.

(don't use it in other forums though or we could both get banned)
