side step recomendations?

I've been looking at all the posts on side steps. I'm interested in stainless round or oval bars that mount to the frame, not the body. Most manufacturers don't specify if they mount to the frame. I also have my exhaust pipe just forward of the right rear wheel, halfway between the back edge of the rear door and the forward edge of the rear fender. I need something that will not be far back enough to interfere with the exhaust on the right side.

Does anybody know who makes stainless frame mounted bars, know a good place I can look or have pics of a similiar setup?

Thanks

I have Westin bars. They are chassis mounted.

good looking steps

Adam,
Those are sharp looking. Everything I have seen about Westin suggests they are body mounted. Did you have to purchase an extra mounting kit as well? Are yours stainless, and are they the signature or platinum series.

Thanks

They came fitted when I bought the truck last year. I think they are chassis mounted but I could be wrong. They look as if they are.
I will be home on Saturday and check them out in more detail, if you can wait.
I will take more pics and post them then.

I got the Ford 5 inch oval steps for our Screw. They mount to the body as well. The frame is another eight inches or so (from memory) inside the body line so the mounting brackets will have to be substantial both for the additional length and strength. Also, most of the steps I've seen end at the line between the cab and bed so should clear your exhaust.

Kr4336,

I agree, most of the ones I've seen also end at the line between cab and bed, and that would probably work, but my luck, I would end up getting the sales rep who doesn't understand what I want and buy something too long.

Anyhow, are yours chrome or stainless, and how much did they run you, if ya don't mind me askin? Five inch oval sounds great, got any pics? I'd post one to explain my exhaust better, but I'd be embarrased posting a pic of her while she's dirty. My pipe runs about a 45 degree angle, and the tip doesn't protrude past the side of the truck. Any mounts should be alright and not interfere with the pipe.

Ok, so I may be looking at body mounted steps instead of frame. You have a point, with the distance of the frame to the body. I just figured the frame has so many good holes in it that it would be perfect. So which holes are used for the body mount???

THE BIG QUESTION--- If you go with body mounted steps and happen to get hung up on a rock or something, do you stand a bigger chance of damaging the body, as opposed to frame mounted steps??

Thanks
