interesting article on medicare cost estimates
Not sure how much I actually believe BUT I am not saying I do not believe it at all. What I find absolutely unbelievable is the fact that these 13 supposed conservative republicans “actually” believed the program would only cost $395 billion and not a penny more.
From the article it makes mention to the fact that some or all those 13 would have NOT voted for the bill had it been at a cost of $400 billion or more and thus this story about withholding information.
Sorry, I do not believe that for a minute, the fact that these 13 would have NOT voted for it. They voted for it because they were followers and not leaders. I am very disappointed in not just President Bush for one of the biggest social programs in history but the fact that very FEW republicans, specifically conservatives, did not do more to block and defeat the bill to begin with.
Now here is the thing, this program is here to stay for decades and it will NOT get cheaper because EVERYBODY and their brother, both republican and democrats will expand this program in every way possible so I don’t believe this talk about re-voting for the program or possibly killing it.
I can tell you now and for a FACT this program is now apart of America just like Social Security its not going anywhere but UP (in cost)

So the Fact that Bush lied about the numbers mean nothing to you. It's all "they would have probably passed it anyway..."

Anyway, no I do not believe that President Bush lied. It is basically impossible to put an accurate number on any program. They can get ball park figures, some will be low balled and some will be high balled.
The fact of the matter is NOBODY really knows how much the damn thing will cost but almost everybody believes it will cost a chit load more in 10 years then most estimates trying to project the actual cost
Well, I guess we'll just have to see how this one plays out.
If he told Congress a low number Knowing it was actually going to be a Much higher number, then that's a lie. That's bad, even if it is from Clinton.
I do realize math get's a little "fuzzy" with Republicans, and especially for Bush, so for now I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.
I (unlike many here) like Facts, before I start making allegations.

There is fuzzy math everywhere you look in Washington.
Anyhow, I deal with reality which means making decisions based on logic and proper thought analysis to come to my own conclusions because the truth of the matter there is really not many facts out there, so to speak.
So where do you find so many facts to make “allegations” or conclusions? No thought analysis of your own to come to conclusions?
Either way, socialised heathcare for anyone is a mistake. Taxpayers shouldn't be responsible for footing the bill for anyone but themselves. The gov't should step in though and force companies to provide healthcare for full-time employees since stress is a contributing factor to many ailments, although you will NEVER hear this for certain from the medical community. It would make your employer partially liable for certain diseases.
