Stratacoustic

Anyone here own or play a Stratacoustic? I've heard a lot of good reviews for them. I've also heard some bad things about the, but it would seem that the guys who didn't like them, had the wrong expectations... I went by the local shop and they didn't have any, but said it sounded like the guitar for what I wanted...

I'm looking for something that plays like an electric, but doesn't have to be plugged in to get a nice sound, so I can play alone. and being able to plug it in would just be a bonus. Plus, I really like the look of the stratacoustic...

I've got a thick bodied steel string acoustic, and a nice electric, but I want something in the middle... and I rarely use my amp as it is... I'm still in the early stages of learning on my own, so I don't need anything too fancy.

If anyone knows of anything else that is comparable I'm all ears.

ive played the guitar for a long time and i have played on a stratacoustic about 2 months ago and it was pretty cool. Good sound. But as for me, ill stick with my Bently Concert series acoustic, my black acoustic personally signed by Joe Nichols, and my 60's model Conrad electric (cheap)

where did you see that guitar? I just cruised through fender.com and didn't see it at all.
I'm not much of a Fender person although I do have a Deluxe 90 amp that I really like. I tend to play my Firebird more than anything else...

thanks for the link. Now that I've had a look at it, I remember seeing one a couple of years ago. Nice looking guitar. I recently (sunday) played around with a Takamine acoustic/ electric. It had great sound plugged in or unplugged. It has built in effects that were kinda neat when plugged in. Full size acoustic though...

If you like acoustic guitars, try out an Ovation flat top. I've been playing ever since I was 5 years old. And an Ovation is the best sounding acoustic I've ever heard. Just my 2 cents.

They are pretty cool guitars. They are a little on the thin side for how I like an accoustic, but they have excellent resonance and action for an accoustic thinline. They are really pretty, too, I always liked the headstocks on them and the telecoustics. I say go for it!
Also, I can recommend the Ovation. The roundback junior dreadnoughts are a great size, but they're not lap guitars. They slide down into your lap on their backs, but if you have a strap, you have no problems.

Sounds good. I've also got an Applause (pronounced CH-EEP) round back nylon acoustic. I think they're made by Ovation (I could be wrong on that), and I agree very hard to hold onto, like to slide...

I really like to sit back on the couch, and just play, but my acoustic is just too big, and bulky... The nylon isn't bad, but I don't like the round back or a strap... I too really like the look of the Strat both the electric and the acoustic. Someday I may add an electric Strat to the collection, but not right now...

Had a little cash set back for a FTVB for the truck, but may end up using it for a new guitar...

So, are there no guitars comparable to the Strat and Telecoustics? (thin bodied acoustics with electric style head/neck)

PhillipSVT, that's seems so wrong, yet so funny...

Actually, yes, it is owned by Ovation, if you call it `owned`, because technically, they are both owned by Kaman.
Comparable guitars are going to be the Ibanez (I can't think of the model name, it's a thinline accoustic with an electric-style neck, very good player), and the Yamaha Thinline.

I've done a little looking around on Ibanez. A buddy told me he thought they had something too, but I didn't see anything. I also heard from a guy on another forum that the Gibson Chet Atkin's was a good choice. Looked it up, and they seem to be very nice, very thin... I really like the look of the body, but probably a little too pricey for me right now...

I believe that the Ibanez Talman is the name of that guitar. The Chet Atkins model is a very nice guitar, but it is a bit pricey. The Talman, yeah, I'm pretty sure that's the name of it.

Yes, the Talman. I found it last night. I like! No, round plastic back... Looks pretty good too. Not sure if the local shop carries them, but I'm going to check on it. Couldn't find a new price anywhere, but the ebay prices were lower than the ebay Stratacoustic prices...

Well, I went by the local guitar shop tonight, and played a Talman. Not sure why, but I kinda fell in love with it. It just seemed so easy to play, sounded very good for it's size and really looked good in person. All they had was a red one though.

I also played a Martin. I can't remember what it was called, but it too was really nice. A bit more than I want to spend though. It was a satin black.

I'm going to go by their other store tomorrow. They're supposed to have a Stratacoustic there.

So, what are your opinions on buying a guitar on ebay? I've found a Talman on there for about $60 cheaper than the local shop. It's even the color I like - Vintage Violin.

I have several guitars from eBay, and I have only had a problem once, and that got taken care of. Be sure and buy from someone who has a good feedback rating, and communicate with them as much as possible before the sale, directly at the end of the sale, and take care of business in a quick way, you should get good results. Don't buy from someone who has negative feedbacks, the feedback is a good way to judge who you should and should not buy from. Usually the items are as described, and pay with a money order so someone actually has to cash it to get their money.
Let us know how it works out.
p.s. You'll probably love almost any Martin that you get to play, they're all top-notch quality.
