Buying 01 XLT - Please HELP

Last night I looked at a 2001 4x4 F150 XLT SuperCab 4.6L. It has 26000 miles and the dealership it is at offered me a price of $19750. Do you think this is a reasonable price? I’m having trouble dishing out that much cash, but I feel like it is a pretty good price. I’m open to any and all comments. Please help!

The truck is dark red (kinda between the Bright Red and Torredor Red?). I couldn’t find any scratches or blemishes on either the exterior or interior. There is no “door crack” and there is no indication that the frame has twisted so the bed and cab have crunched together. Is there any other specific issues I should look for???

The truck is basically loaded (no leather). The options include: 4.6L, 4x4, electronic shift on fly, ac, ps, pw, pwr lcks, tilt wheel, cc, stock CD player, dual air bags, power seats, ABS, chrome tubular running boards, drop in bed liner, 16” alloy wheels, rear slider, caption chairs (no bench seat), and leather wrapped steering wheel.

There was one thing I thought was odd. When the dealer pulled the truck around front, as he turned into a parking spot, the inside rear wheel was slipping, as if the rear diff was locked. I’ve never owned a 4x4 before, is that normal??? Does that mean it also has a limited slip rear? Could it have been in 4x4 so the dealer could get it off the grassy (wet) hill it was on?

I would really appreciate all comments and suggestions. The dealer will hold it for me until Thursday night. Thanks for any help you can provide.

2001 F150 XLT Supercab 4x4
Everything you mentioned was standard on that truck except as follows:

23246 dealer invoice
00931 automatic transmission
00136 Electronic transfer case
00306 power seat
00107 sliding window
00417 captains chairs
00298 cab steps

25441 dealer invoice as equipped
00715 destination charge

(the drop-in was aftermarket or dealer installed, they didn't come from the factory)

No judgement, just posting for informational purposes.
Is there any warranty left?

Certainly not meant as a thread hijack and I'll steer it back on course if it happens but...

At first glance I thought that:

1) He wanted help from 01 XLT Sport (Burt) on buying

or

2) He was interested in buying Burt's old screen name

or

3) He was considering buying Burt and he wasn't sure if it was a good deal or not (I could answer this one pretty easily...)

Anyway, back to your regularly scheduled thread....

BEST OF LUCK WITH YOUR PURCHASE!!

Burt is for sale for the right price.
He is a man-ho, and for the right price, he can be yours (that's what rockpick told me)

I can't believe you are Pimping Burt out. You had better trade the truck for one of these

Go to www.kbb.com and type in the information and you can get a price in your area. You also should be able to get a good value number from your insurance agent or your banker. If you are not familiar with blue book numbers you will get 4 prices. Retail, Wholesale, Loan Value and Trade In. Listed from Highest to Lowest. My personal opinion is that no used vehicle is worth more than what the bank will loan on it.

When I did it in a nearby zip code and I was guessing at some of the options, I got a Retail Value (What a dealer most likely would price at) of about $20,700. When I selected the Private Party Value (What I would have on the window if I were selling it myself) I got $17,965. If you get the trade in value you will get a lower number. Just my two cents, I would shoot for something between the trade-in and the $18,000 number. I can't speak to the other issue.

Good Luck

If you take the 01 for a test drive again get her out on the road and floor it into passing gear and watch the tail pipe for smoke. I had an 01 4.6 and it would smoke when I did that, it did that from day one- bought new- and the dealer could never fix it, drove it out of warranty and traded it. Good luck. R81

That's the first thing that crossed my mind as well. The second thought was..... "Man, Burt is really going to extremes to make his Lightning payments."

When you say the rear wheel was 'slipping'... what do you mean?

He means turning faster than distance traveled.
Which indicates Limited Slip.
With an Open RearEnd the inside wheel would not 'slip'(his definition) the outside rear wheel would turn relative to the acelerator, the inside would have nothing applied to it.

Usually, with limited slip, if the outside wheel is slipping then the inside will slip too, at a slower rate, if both wheels are on a like surface.

It is completely normal.

Don't go by what kbb.com has to say. They are funded by the auto dealers. But off the top of my head 19K sounds WAY too high for an '01.

I was thinking the same thing Frank.

I would think the truck would drop more than $5,800 in three years.

I'm thinking like Habibi.
How much would Burts value drop after 3 years Man-Ho action?
