Haiti - Did Bush do enough?
Haiti - Did Bush do enough?

Ok check out that article. And help me out with this. I am only a college student and not very wise in the way of the world so here is my opinion.
The ultimate check on a president/ goverment is the people in a democratic nation. If they are un-happy they can "impeach' him as we do or even if it gets drastic enough over throw him. So here we have a situation were a great deal of people are un-happy and decide to over throw the goverment. Now everyone is yelling at the US for not doing enough. (We shall get back to this in a moment) They are also saying the US forced the president out. When all this first started happining I remember their president saying "I will never leave" and as expected the US sends some troops over to Haiti but tell him they aren't going to protect him. So he can either stay and get captured by the rebels, fight to the end or leave the country. He chooses the (IMHO) yellow way out So all the sudden if we dont protect a president from the backlash of his own stupid mistakes we are assisting the coup and/or kinapping him.
"You can stay and face the music or get on our plane and run away?"
"Ok, Ill go with out, but I'll tell the world you kinapped me."
I haven't been able to find any litature on it, but do most of the Haiti people support the goverment or the rebels? I suppose if most of them support the goverment then perhaps the world (em, read UN) should have dones something. But like always it seems the y epexct the US to. However I have a nagging feeling if the US would have "gone to war" with these poorly armed rebels some of the current critics would have turned 180 on the subject.
Then there is the whole topic, save the guy whos own people are trying to over throw him but why did we have to attack the guy who killed anyone he please to (read Iraq)
This is how I am viewing the whole situation, perhaps someone can help me out with this.

Well not having a lot of background of the subject and from just some reading it seems this is, I believe, the 30th something time the people have overthrown their government. That being said I don’t really see what America could have done to stop the overthrow when you have so many people that want the current government out of power.
I absolutely do not believe any of the (few) democrats hype that we kidnapped this moron and sent him on his way. Nor do I believe for a moment the (few) black democrats whining this is a “white” America issue. That has got to be the stupidest thing I have ever heard come out of a few extremist socialist liberals mouth in a long time, but then again they do really nutty things knowing they won’t see power for a very long time and this is one of the reason they won’t see power because of that absolutely idiotic statement.
It is very easy to put the “white” America issue to rest by asking the morons if that were true then what color are the people that are in control now, and what color are the people that wanted the former leader gone?
See what I mean? Extremist socialist liberals opening their mouths and making comments before totally thinking through their selfish agenda’s.
Haiti is not a country like America, there are not accustom to traditional democratic ways of doing things such as impeachments. This is a country where their way of life, their customs and traditions is to simply overthrow those in charge if they do not like the way things are going. They are still a backwards nation either unable or unwilling to learn the ways of how functional societies operate and that being the case there is no need to send a lot of troops there to protect one guy from the vast majority of the country that wants him out.
Very much different then Iraq where there the vast majority of its citizens wanted Saddam out of power and now are very happy with America for doing what they couldn’t do on their own…

i dont know a whole lot about it, but i think he should just stay the hell out of it. i used to support him 100%, but slowly hes screwin stuff up. opening up the border with mexico more changed my mind.
the US wasnt involved in that mess, stay the hell out of it. just costing american lives and money. its their business.

I don't know what it is about the generations born since 1950, but they believe we should use our tax dollars to help out every 3rd world country in the world. All this helping has gotten us 7 trillion in debt. I have a news flash: there will come a day when Germany and Japan (the major creditors of the US) will want their money.
Haiti is a "democracy". There are many flavors of "democracy", some of which are dictatorships where the "vote" is predetermined. Our government, regardless of which political party holds the presidency at the time, has a history of supporting some of these "democracies" for the purposes of political expediency.
Haiti has a reputation, and history, of less than democratic "recall elections". It seems a waste of Taxpayer money to "send in the marines", except for one thing: there are innocents involved. Perhaps we can help a transition to another government and then quietly (and quickly) depart.
