1997 f-150

Hey all,
I may be joining the ford ranks soon, currently driving a blazer. I found a 1997 150 w/ 4.6 5speed reg cab step side box with 40k miles. All for the low low price of $4k. It just had a new clutch put in, flowmaster muffler, rearend re-built. The downfalls of it are its title, being designated by an "R". Supposedly the orig owner hit the front cross member with a huge a$$ rock and screwed up the frames, airbags deployed, radiator, and a few other minor things. The owner now has had it for almost 2 years and hasnt had many if any problems. Just want to see what everyone thinks about this, if it sounds like a good deal. Thanks alot.

That's my truck...

Well, if you add about 100K to the odometer that is...

It's a sweet truck man, I've had mine for almost two years and it still literally takes my breath away sometimes when I'm walking towards it to go somewhere. 130,000 miles on it, but the exterior is near-perfect and people are always complimenting me on my "new" truck lol... That deal sounds good to me, if you like the truck don't let it go!

If the frame isn't compromised, go for it!
However - FYI - it takes an impact of something like 30 MPH to set off the air bags.

If it has 40k on it, it should still have the original rubber.
The tire brand/size should match the spare brand/size.
If so, look for uneven wear.
A frame damaged vehicle can eat tires up.

I agree if the vehicle is straight it is a good deal.
Some wrecks can be made road-worthy without being made right.

Yeah, some places just fix them well enough to get them gone, but if someone has driven it for two years since the repair work was done, and they didn't have any problems, then I wouldn't worry about it. I'd definitely check out the frame, though. Most definitely, the way to go is with a 1997 4.6 F-150!

The frame was done well from what I know. It's a friend selling it and he's selling to get a bigger truck. The tires arent original as the previous owner has something bigger and now they are 245's. I'm basically trying to decide jeep or truck, tough decision.

Oh, Jeeps are awesome, but if you don't have either, go for the truck! It's more useful in everday life than the Jeep.

Jeeps are awesome. If I get the truck I'll sell it in 2 years. If I get a jeep I'll keep it and turn it into a pure offroader. its a tough one

When you have a truck, you use it a lot more than you ever intended to. The downside is, everybody wants you to help them move! A Jeep, everybody wants you to take them 4 wheeling, but that's cool, because you were probably going 4 wheeling anyway. A Jeep is definitely my next purchase, but I can't do without the Ford.

Yea people do ask you to do some stuff since you have a truck, but if the truck doesnt have any problems and drives out right, $4,000 is a great price for a 40,000 mile 4.6. With proper maintence, these motors are very trouble free.

Id say go with it and join the Ford family!!!
