Facility/Reliability Engineer (Offshore Gulf of Mexico)
I work as a offshore facility/reliability engineer (mechanical engineering) for the largest oil/gas producer in the Gulf of Mexico. I work on small scale projects to improve/optimize production (how much can we suck out the ground today) and also keep them online producing. It's the raw form of energy as we know it and it powers just about everything in our lives....
You know you have an effect on everyone when one of your platforms shuts down, the oil market traders go berserk, and gasoline spot market prices shoot up $0.25/gallon...until you come back online.

I work at one of the largest inland Refineries in the states. We process 195,000 barrells of crude a day. I am a unit operator - shift worker - 12 hour days. I operate an 85,000 bbl. Crude Unit, a 25,000 bbl. Catalytic Reforming Unit and a 25,000 bbl. Fluidized Catalytic Cracking Unit. Been doing this for 13 years now. Prior to this, I was a Roughneck in the Western Oklahoma Oil Patch for 10 years.
My other job revolves around hunting. I raise and train bird dogs, Pointers, and I also guide bird hunts.
My education... I have a Masters degree from the School of Hard Knocks, working towards my Doctorate......
a quote from a band I've been listening to for a long time..."My hair's turning white, my neck's always been red, my collar's still blue"...
Thank you to all the veterans and active service men and women for protecting us and our children....I would also like to offer a special Thank You to our Vietnam vets....
