Thumbs up Steelhead Fishing Trip

Now, before anyone complains this is off topic, I went there in my F150, 1100 mile trip. Now that's over. I just got back from fishing two days on the celebrated Rogue River in Gold Beach Oregon. WOW, what a trip, A friend and I went with a guide from Gold Beach. First day, rained all day, well what do you expect for the coast of Oregon. I caught one 8 lbs. one 5 lbs. and a dozen 1/2 pounders. My friend caught one 8 lbs. and a dozen or so 1/2 pounders. Next day cloudy, and windy, but no rain. My friend caught two about 4-5 lbs. and one 9 lbs. and three 1/2 pounders. I caught one 14 1/2 lbs. and two 1/2 pounders. That 14 1/2 lbs. is the biggest steelhead I have caught to date, and the 9 lbs. is the biggest my friend has caught. Great trip. Oh yeh, got 17.3 mph average on the 1100 miles. Superchip high performance setting. Jon

MikeF150: those are some nice fish. Reminds me of when we could catch them out of the Thief Valler Res. (North Eastern Oregon) At the time they had the limits off so you could catch as many as you wanted. Fun stuff.

twoshots: Were you catching those with fly rods? Always thought it looked like fun. I've never caught anything that big with a fly rod. I think 13.5 inches is the biggest I've ever gotten that way.
