Don't confuse the message with the messenger.
that was my point exactly. you said it much better, and more succinctly, than I did. I will remember that phrase.

My Catholic upbringing was the same. They did not push the point other than to say that GOD, JC and the Holy Ghost form the Holy Trinity and that the three are one. There are several lines in the bible though that allude to the fact that they are one and the same.

But you do not hear grace and forgiveness from the mouths of the Mad Mullahs.
The KKK claim to be Christian. The Catholic Crusades etc. There are examples of bad groups, sects, cults, madmen or whatever you wish to call them in every religion.

I consider, for example, that the God of Jehovah's Witnesses, and the God of Mormons are not the same God as the God of the Bible, but these religions somehow think they are Christian (Mormons believe in many Gods, just one for Earth, and JWs believe that Jesus was not God, sort of like Moslems) They do not all believe generally the same thing, which is not to say there are not similarities.

Comments?
Actually they believe in the same god as well. The Mormons just have a sequel to the Bible called the Book of Mormon that goes further.
The Jehovah Witnesses believe in God as well but they do not believe in the Trinity. They believe that Jesus is not God but something less. They believe the the Trinity lessens God because if it were true it would mean that God, JC and the Holy Ghost are equals. They do not believe that they are one and the same.

Brewmaster:

I met John Perkins in my college days at UC Berkeley. I was attending an InterVarsity "urban conference" in SF and he crashed it. He took over the seminar I was in and led it. That is where I heard him talk about the difference (he felt) between conservatives and liberals. (something I have thought about ever since, and while it sounds pretty prejudicial on the surface, often seems true) I used to have one of his books autographed! (but I gave it away...) I still remember he wrote Gal 2:20 ("I have been crucified with Christ...) in it.

I will have to get a hold of that book you mentioned. My family is not only biracial, it is bi-cultural. That sends my parents up the wall, but most casual observers think it is wonderful, as I do. My kids are as fluent in Japanese as they are in English, and can read and write (in both languages) as well as anyone their ages.
It has been one wild, but fascinating ride, being married to my wife.

She is not intellectual, or activist, or intense about anything, she is just a wonderful, happy person. She gets a lot of flack at her job because she speaks with an average accent (not really thick, but very noticable), and there are those who abuse her with "Let me talk with someone who speaks English!". I lived in Japan, and know how it feels to try to express one's self in a foreign language, only to be ridiculed by a native speaker. My wife, and others like her, deserve respect.

Just a little personal insight, totally off topic...
