Angry Service Contracts

I purchased a 98 Ford Expedition 2 years ago from a dealer in the Minneapolis area. The truck was in really nice shape. The dealer offered me a service contract through a company called API for $ 1800.00 . I thought it sounded like a pretty good deal to have the contract for 3 years 36000 miles. To find out the contract isn't worth much more then the paper it is on. API will pick and choose what they will cover and it isn't much. I am not a person to sit and bad mouth a company but I would just like to give one word of advice. If you are buying a used vehicle from a dealer don't be suckered into buying a service contract from a company called API. Save your money. Riley

I am in my second Commerical Contract Law class and even then so much is written into contracts (or can be) to get confused with. Some of the little stuff is cool though and you can apply it to a lot of situations.

Sorry to hear about your situation.

When Phillip graduates he will be able to write a service contract that will not only deny your claim, they will be allowed to hold you down and forcibly remove your fillings.

Used to hate having to deal w/ extended service contracts when trying to repair a customers car. They hire people to try and get the shops to repair the car for almost nothing. Had an A/C job one time where a rock hit the condensor and needed replacing. The contract place ( in minn.) wanted to send us the condensor because they could get it $15 cheaper than we were going to charge for the part. ( I guess the shipping charges don't count ) I told my customer and he said he wasn't going to wait a week to get his car fixed. They tried to get the labor discounted too. Finally I told the company that I was going to work up a quote, give it to the customer and let him decide what he wanted to do. The contract guy said that our shop would never do work for them agian ( like we wanted more of this type of work) If your motor blows up prematurely and you serviced it religously and kept perfect records than a service contract isn't so bad. otherwise I would aviod them

Thanks for the reply. I was just very frustrated when I wrote this because of the way this company API handled this situation. Riley
