I assume your running windows? What windows are you running?

Win98, Winn2000 or Win XP?

Windows Explorer under Windows XP has tools/folder options/file types.

You can associate a program with each file type there with the "Opens with".

Or you can right click on the file and go to properties and somewhere it will say opens with and there should be a button thats says change where you can set the default there. Just another option...

In the later versions of windows you can right click on the file and hit "open with" and then select the program you want. Make sure and check the "always use this program" at the bottom if you want it to view automatically next time.

Just d/l and install Irfanview and associate all the "images only" files with it during installation. Great, fast, free viewer.
