Anyone live in Charlotte, NC or surrounding area?

Hey gang -

Anyone here live in Charlotte or the surrounding area?

I'm looking to get out of Lost Angeles. A couple of my friends told me Charlotte is a great place, but I want to find out from someone who lives there.

How is it? How are the people? What's the weather really like? How humid is it in the summer? (I was toying with Florida but it's too dang humid there).

What are some good areas? I'm looking for an upper-middle class area, suburban, nice house, low crime, friendly kind of place.

Lost Angeles is just getting worse every day. Crowded, unbelievable traffice, no decent house for under $600,000.00, a lousy economy, an immigration problem that is unbelievable, and a host of other problems that would take too long to mention.

I was looking at houses on Realtor.com found nice places in zip code 28212...they look nice enough and the area seems to be nice, but you can't really tell....

So help me out my brothers....Charlotte?

or.....any other suggestions of places?

k

I don't live there but I did copius amounts of research there as I was looking to move there as well. I had two job offers in the immediate area and, overall, it appears that it's a GREAT place to be. You're hours away from the beach and from the mountains.

In hindsight, I'm glad I made the decision that I made on my job (staying in Louisville) but, it was tough...

The traffic sucks; but, coming from L.A., you would barely even notice it.

Kobiashi,

I live in the suburbs of Charlotte. Place called Weddington, NC. Zip 28104

I have lived in Tenn, NY, NJ, Va, and Ga. I really like it here. Cost of living is about right compared to other areas. Gas is still affordable.
Housing is about the best deal. Approx. 100 dollars per square foot for existing and you can still find some builders that will build a custom for between 110 and 150 per square foot.

This is one of the biggest realty firms in the area:

http://www.allentate.com/content/PropertySearch.asp

This is a link to their property search. Plug in Union County (area 10) and search for the size house you want, then see the listings. If you are thinking of working in Charlotte, you will probably want to live in Union County or at Lake Norman on the other side of town. I don't have links to realty up there, but there is one big company I believe Lake Norman Realty that may list on the web.

Need more info. I can try to find it for you, just email me from the F150online profile.

Ahh, another comforting reason to know that Louisville is the place for me...

LOL! JK serotta...

If the $ would've been a little nicer down there, I'd be there right now. I LOVED the area...

Thanks serotta -

I emailed the folks at Allen Tate's relocation division and asked for info and gavethem a description of what kind of neighborhood I'm looking for, etc.

If I come out to visit the area we should meet for dinner....

My treat of course....

Hear that RP, K's treat of course...... aren't you sorry you didn't move here now?

K, That little bit of info. certainly isn't worth dinner, but a beer or two certainly wouldn't be out of line.
If I can be of any help, don't hesitate to ask.

I refuse to answer that on the grounds that it may incriminate me.
