2004 Bronco

Has anyone seen or heard of the new 2004 Bronco.I found this on a spanish website. Here is what they said in the article.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Todoterreno in phase from study to the purest classic style. It is the Ford Bronco, the last prototype of the Ford giant within 4x4. With a style that can remember to Class G of Mercedes or the Land Rover Defender, the Rough one recovers this denomination of a whole land of years 60. Nevertheless, for the mechanics one has resorted to a very logical option, the well-known 2,0 TDCi of 130 cv that already mounts so many tourism of the Ford group. We will see something by the street thus? Considering the dynamism of the segment 4x4 would not be to be strange.

I used to hate that thing, but lately, I kind of like it. It's grown on me a bit, I'd like to have one with some 44s on it.

The last I've heard is that it's still a prototype. There was a thing in the paper the other day about the Bronco and a Jeep Rescue that are supposed to target the people who like the H2 type vehicles.

If I had to guess I would say that maybe it might be released in '06.

I don't like it...it reminds me of a "Thing". Remember the Volkswagon "Thing"?

Or a Honda Element or something.

J Mays has stated that he wants this to make it to production.

The thing they need to work out is which platform it would ride on.

They sugessted it share a platform with the Land Rover Defender, but they would need to make a business case for bringing the Defender back to North America.

They suggested a shortened Ranger platform, but that would be too expensive.

They suggested a shortened Escape or EcoSport platform, but they are car based and they want this to be a rugged rail framed truck.

It definitely will NOT be a replacement for the 2 door Explorer so it won't be on that frame at all.

So it could be more like '07 or '08 before it happens.

Unfortunately we all know that, whether you like it or hate it, Ford will release something that looks very different than this rig.
Just look at what they did to the Mustang, the 500, etc...

My wife had one whenwe met. Most uncomfortable, slowest, worst gas mileage (the heater actually used the gas in the tank to produce heat) ugly yellow POS. But nam was it made outof pure steel. No beer cans for this baby, and you talk about a great crashing through the boonies vehicle, and it wasn't even 4X4. We towed it to Montana then when we moved back we towed it back here. Finall sold it. I think we got a stale piece of bread for it. LOL Jon

7-days, but who's counting!

So it is true then,I hope we do not have to wait until 2006-07 for it to hit the streets.
Thanks for the Info.

It'll be toned down a bit for production; but, it will follow the same general vein as the concept. I think it will be sharp.

Yea I remember the "Thing" my old man had one back in the 80's. Damn car floated...it got outrageously good gas mileage too. This Bronco kind of resembles it but to me it looks like a Jeep on Steroids which can't be all the bad.
