Question Hotmail/attachments problem

I have a problem with sending an email with an attachment added.(Hotmail)
When I send it, the email just keep hanging there and will not be sent eventually.
Receiving an email with an attachment is working just fine on hotmail.
I have no problems whatsoever with my other mail.
The size of the attachment is under 100 kB.
I am using outlook express 6.0

Anyone knows what's causing this?
I am

TIA

Eliminate the easy stuff first. Use IE or Netscape... see if it duplicates the problem there.

Checked your outgoing settings?
Are you using Outlook for more than just Hotmail?

IE duplicates the problem.

Yes I am using outlook for more than hotmail.
What should I check in the output settings.

My brother told me it is the broadband router with built in firewall.
It's working fine with pop3 email accounts but not with hotmail!!
If so what to do about it.

Is your attachment more than 10 Megs? If it is, then this is probably why it won't send, their servers only support up to 10 megs at a time.
If this is not the case, then you're going to have a heck of a time figuring it out, because the first thing you should do is verify all of the settings in your Outlook, such as your SMTP (outgoing mail) servers, and the only place that can really verify that is your ISP, and they won't verify this for you because you are sending on the hotmail domain, and they don't support it. I hope you get to the bottom of it soon, and good luck!

Just a simple pic only 80 kB of size.
I am aware of that, it's hard to figure out.

Thanks

CJ:

You did not specify if this is for all of your outgoing attachments or only on f150online. If it is all outgoing destinations I haven't a clue. If it is f150online only, go to the "Questions about this site" or whatever it is called and post there. We have a whole raft of issues we are trying to get Steve's help on since the latest change in server providers.

Also, it should be noted that Hotmail recently underwent a facelift. I don't know if they (MS) tweaked settings on their part as part of that lift.... one would expect that they didn't but, I wouldn't say that it's a definite.

Bill,

My problem has nothing to do with f150online.
All my other mail is working fine, too.
Hotmail too, only I can not send attachments.

For those with hotmail, any problems with sending attachments?

Not that I use it a lot but hey, should work imo.

Hey Buddy, I'm up in Norway using a hotel business center and away from my own laptop but seem to recall a setting in Outlook Express for the size of attachments.

If you click on Tools then Accounts you should get a little screen with mail\news\etc options.
Click on your Hotmail account then click Properties.
There is something there (I think) that limits or affects attachment size.

Hope this helps

Adam

Thumbs up We're getting there.

Changing the router's firmware version to an older one partially fixed the problem.
I can send attachments on hotmail now on my laptop.
However it still is not working on my other computer.
Strange!

F150Europe,

I use MSN/Hotmail, too. I've had intermittent problems with sending attachments over the past 2 weeks. I think that it may be a Hotmail issue, not your computer and/or settings.

I didn't mention, I also had problems with ftp upload.
That problem also has gone, therefore I think the problem is related to my set up.

Thanks for letting me know.
