Srt-4

Just a quick question for you guys and gals... My Dad is looking for a fun, sporty, 4-door car, and is really interested in the Neon SRT-4. He's a huge fan of the STI and Evo, but the price of the SRT-4 is what really appeals to him. He wants something he can sell to Mom, and still have a blast with, driving on these twisting roads down here, and doing a little modifying...

Besides it being a crummy 4-banger, anyone have any input on these cars? Would be appreciated....

Thanks.

Yeah, I know. But for a "family" car, that he gets to have fun with... Kinda better then the SVT Focus, cheaper then the STI and Evo... And I can't give him too much crap, he's restoring a beautiful '66 Mustang in the garage... His heart's in the right place.

Those things are quick. Simple bolt ons will get you to mid 12's. My friend has one, and it IS a blast to drive.

Fast little cars that handle surpisingly good. I think Ford really needs to take not the they offered a turbo vehicle in the price range of the SVT Focus.

Downsides from what I've heard:

Still a Neon.
Still typical Neon quality (wears over time, kinda like Mitsubishi).
Feels kinda cheap.

From what I've heard they are good little cars, and for the price very fast. But yes they are still an entry level car ( pronounced CH-EEP), and being a Dodge has nothing to do with it. You can't exactly say the Focus and ZX2 are shining models of endurance. They're entry level cars too...

I get tired of all the people here putting something down because it's not Ford. So quick to point out any little defect or problem with another manufacturer. Hell if you believe everything you hear you shouldn't have bought anything...

blown spark plugs
Head gasket problems
cracked doors
rusting doors
tie rods wear and pop
piston slap
sliding windows leak
Honda wanna-be taillights

I'm sure the list goes on, but I still love my truck...

Screw Dodge, and everyone except for Ford, for that matter. I didn't point out anything at all except that it's a Dodge, and maybe it even has better qualities than the entry-level Ford all the way across the board, but it's still a Dodge, so to heck with it. Dodge is worse than Chevrolet!

Sorry if I'm brand loyal, but it's my opinion, and let's not lose focus of the fact that we're on a Ford truck message board, not an `all-comer no bashing where every vehicle is treated fairly` message board. Screw them all except for Ford and maybe Jeep. (Hey, seems that Dodge can at least do one thing right!)

Hey, easy there I wasn't pointing any fingers... didn't even say anyone that had posted in the forum. I know it's not a high class car that's why I said it was an entry level, and all the companies have 'em, and I love my truck regardless of what others might say. I also never said I had any serious Mopars... But since you asked here's what I've got...

No flames intended towards anyone, either, just saying. The cars there that you have aren't `junk`, they're classics, and I wouldn't mind havind one like the first pic to restore myself! I was thinking that you had a Charger or a Challenger, I was thinking that we had this conversation before. Oh well, anyway, smoke `em if you got `em!

no harm done, and I wasn't trying to start a war, just tired, and wanna go home...

by the way I bought the '69 New Yorker for the drive train, but it turned out to be too clean plus a it's a one owner with all the original paperwork including the window sticker. I just didn't have the heart to scrap it. So, I'm going to fix the few things it needs, and take it to some shows, and if someone makes a good offer it will be theirs...
