Question on ordering a vehicle

Has anyone went through the hassle of ordering a vehicle just the way you want it, paid the deposit, waited for it, then when it came in, it wasn't what you ordered? What did you do?

I ordered my 96 explorer and it came in on the exact day they said when I ordered it and it was just how I ordered it.

I also have a 2004 lariat ordered right now and am still waiting on it, ordered 12/26 so its going to be a while on it.

I have not been required to pay a deposit for either of the vehicles I ordered.

It is very unlikely that it would happen.
When it does happen, it is due to the dealer feeding you a line of crap or he is working some kind of shell game.

I have ordered four new vehicles, two of them Fords, and the only misunderstanding I' had was dealer installed/vice factory installed cruise control on a 1987 Toyota.
Toyota is famous for 'dealer installed' options, even today.
Dealer installed means sending it off to a third party.

That will never happen again.
I ask all the right questions.
I don't mess around.
I have a gun, they know it.

That's great you didn't have to pay a deposit. I have heard a few horror stories over the years of people ordering vehicles and when they come in, they are nothing like what they ordered. I'm wondering how often this happens.

You sit down with a salesman, and fill out a sheet that lists everything about the vehicle. You sign it, the dealership signs it.
You get a copy.
They submit the order to the factory, via computer.
Vehicle comes in exactly like that or you and your deposit walk.

It's that simple.

It's up to you to know and understand what you've ordered.
Sites like this help in that regard.

I had a Dodge pick up come in one time with the wrong wheels but the dealer ordered the correct ones and I was in business in about a week. I have ordered close to a dozen new trucks in my life and never paid a deposit

I have ordered my last two Ford trucks and last 4 Honda vans and never paid a deposit on any of them.
BUT, if it wasn't what I ordered, I would negotiate the price down, take it as is, walk away from it with my deposit or make them reorder it. You are paying thousands of dollars for a product, it should be the way you want it to be or someone else can buy it.

Question

I really don't remember clearly about a deposit because it was such a trivial thing. I was serious about my order, I think they did ask for a deposit of a few hunderd? I don't recall. The last time I bought new was five years ago.

Would the dealer asking for a deposit have any bearing on the purchase? Would anyone walk away from a deal because they asked for a deposit? If I was the salesman that would make me wonder. I never gave it a thought.

Deposit/No deposit, what am I not understanding about this?

I ordered my 02, and I left a large deposit from what I remember.

In retrospect it was a mistake, and something I will never do again.
I did have a horror story with my dealer:
When I ordered my truck, I'm in the office with "Kate", I'm signing here, and initialling there, and she asks "Which rustproofing would you like, the spray or the electronic?"

Of course I say "no thanks", and she says "Oh, it's absolutly free, everyone who buys or leases a new Ford truck gets it free"

When my truck arrived, it was perfect, I'm signing my life away when I notice an added charge "Electronic Rustproofing Module $1,299"

Well, if the chit didnt hit the goddamn fan,

I ended up not paying for it, but it was an arguement from hell, and ever since I have not dealt with that dealerships sales dept.
My truck gets serviced there, but I won't buy anything from them because they are greasy, lyin', slippery *****, and if it was legal, I would shoot them all.

My wifes focus we got from the next Ford dealer, and we take it to this one for service, haha.

I said this once a long time ago:
You know every now and then you hear about someone "snapping" and unloading a couple clips in a mcdonalds or whatever.

If I ever lose it, it will be at a dealership when they are having a big sale, and all those sumbiches are getting it.

And you know what else burns my hide?
All these serial killers roaming around the USA - they are killing the homeless, killing gays, killing protitutes, man, listen to me you psyos, from now on, direct all your anger to car salesmen and at least do the rest of us a favor.

Peace -

How long does it take to get your Ford once you ordered it?

Both the truck and the car took about 5-6 weeks.
Pretty quick I would say.
