I just checked your forecast... Snow, snow, and more snow

I like snow, myself. Get to use the snow blower and drive on slippery roads. It's much more fun than the sub-zero temperatures. We had -10 here in Minneapolis last night and there is a -15 predicted next week

I wish we had that much snow.

Question

Is it really getting cold now in the States?
Read in the paper this morning crude-oil price went up because of it.

Many homes in the Northeastern U.S. use heating oil, which is petroleum based. When it gets cold there, prices tend to go up. January is typically the coldest month of the year in the U.S. We use natural gas here in the Midwest.

Heating Oil is the same thing as diesel fuel. The only real difference between the 2 is that one has more excise taxes as it is considered more of a luxury than a necessity. My house is on oil and the price is about 25-35% cheaper than diesel. If I had a diesel vehicle I would for sure be siphoning off the 900 litre tank in the basement.

So when the winters are especially cold, the price of diesel goes through the roof as supply dwindles.

I wouldn't mind as bad if it would snow, because the cold is a small price to pay for the snow, but when it's just cold for no reason, that ain't right!

That amount of snow must really suck.
I can't imagine how that is like.
We do get some snow once in a while but not much.
We haven't got much winter yet, temperatures around 0-10 degrees celsius.
No winter usually means wet weather here.
We have got some pretty rainy weather so far and lots to come.
Now that's bad for the crops in the greenhouses.
We need sunny weather for the crops to grow, so it's better to have freezing weather with clear blue skies.

I am using natural gas to heat the house and the greenhouses.
Although it's the same gas and flowing thru the same gaspipe I am paying more for gas used in the house than used for my business. My business is not that big, on a yearly basis I am using about 70,000 cubic meters (conversion?!) of natural gas.
I am paying $0.21 per cubic meter of natural gas.

Everyone in the winter areas, take care.

Man I feel for ya. I can't go to the beach for a week (the sand rubbed my butt raw yesterday).
