Your Government in The News:
"It's like buying a car. I would love to have a Mercedes or a Lexus but my checkbook doesn't afford that"
Edward Bair
US Army's program executive officer for intelligence, electronic warfare and sensors.
Defense News January 5, 2004.
The article had to do with the purchase of a new sort of airborne surveillance plane. Do we buy a Brazilian Embraer or a Gulfstream airplane. The planes don't really matter here, the Embraer has 70% US content for example.
What struck me, rather hard at that, is that a very high official in the US Government procurement process who I guess is in charge of a $6 billion program would choose that analogy.
Not that many years ago I would suspect the names would have been Lincoln and Cadillac.
Where is Burt when I need him?????????????
