Need Help

I am trying to remove my AC face plate but it wont come off. I already have the front dash off but the face plate wont come off from the sockets. There seem to be one little tab on either side and 3 on the bottom, yet none on the top. Any suggestions?

I dont mean to reply to myself but I got it off and now I am working on the headlight controller. I got it off but the bulb is very intresting. I wish I had a picture of it. Almost looks like it is out of a computer, kind of stuck on the board and covered in green. Anyone know how I could get it to a different color?

I'm the farthest thing from electrically gifted but, I'll take a stab...

If the bulb looks like one that has been soldered onto the power leads, you could potentially find another color bulb at Radio Shack. *shrugs*

Just stabbing in the dark here....

Most likely you are talking about an LED (Light Emitting Diode). Unlike an ordinary incandescent bulb they don’t have filaments that will burn out, and they don’t get hot.

They illuminate solely by the movement of electrons in a semiconductor material and last as long as a standard transistor. There are different types of diodes as far as current requirements, always in milliamps, and usually 5vdc or 12vdc, I am sure there may be others.

As RockPick mentioned Radio Shack may be a good source for finding the LED you may want to use. They may even know what the standard current draw is for the particular LED you may need for your application. If they happen to know the current draw and the only ones they have require less current draw then no problem a simple resistor in series won’t take care of. If you buy a diode rated at say 20mA and then put 50mA through it, it will burn out or melt very quickly so at least you don’t have everything put together just to find out it burn out hours later.

You will need to unsolder the old one and then solder the new one in place. You will need to know the polarity of the circuit. The diode you buy will have 2 legs on it. One long and one shorter then the other. The longer one is the Positive side and the shorter one is the Negative side.

If it is put in reversed polarity it simple won’t work, it won’t damage it, it just will not illuminate. If you don’t know the polarity of the circuit you can simple test the diode by applying power to the circuit and try the diode both ways and then make a mental note of the correct way to solder the diode in the circuit.

Easy there Radio Shack.

You've got questions, Burt's got answers....

Seriously though, nice response. You're still a keyhole though.

Ok, I was trying to change the color of my dash but it didnt work out to hot. Luckily I got everything pretty much back to normal, but it isnt as easy as it would seem (to change the color that is) I wasnt able to change mine. I was hoping it would be a simple change of the bulb but there was a little more work to it. I wouldnt recomend doing this mod unless you have done a lot of research and know exactly what you are going to do. If you have any other questions about it PM me and I will try to help.

Damn I'm cute!

Also, you do realize that methane produces ozone right? I was just doing my share for cleaner air... and enjoying some fire grilled bratworst.
