Magazine subscriptions.

Does anyone remember the days when you got your magazine before it hit the news stand? I see Car and Driver at the supermarket a full week or two before I get mine in the mail now. What's up with that?

Don't know what it's worth OW, but I noticed the same thing about 3 years ago with a cycling magazine I subscribe to. I called the publisher, then the customer relations department. They gave me a song and dance about mailing dates and the large volume of mail they sent out monthly. I finally got them to agree to move my name up on the early mailing list for the magazine. It worked, and I've been getting it before the newsstand ever since.

Smaller volume in the cycling industry, it may not work to apply that kind of pressure on a mag. as big as Car and Driver.

What they do for a cost cutting measure is put them out on the stand first, then what they don’t sale they simple slap your mailing label on it and send it off…

I think it's because of the deep savings you receive by having an annual subscription these days. You really save a lot over the news stand price. The high profit shipments are out the door first.
