Electric Razors??????

I've always used a shaving cream and a Atra razor, liked the shave better. I've heard that the electric razors have come a long way. I was thinking about getting my 16 year old son one.

Any recommendations? How much should you spend for one? I've seen them priced $40 to $100 or more...

Braun!

I like to shave with a razor and regular soap; but, I've used a lot of different electric razors over the years, also. The Braun was the only one that handled my beard without tearing up my face with daily use. They make damned good razors.

Thumbs up

I have a Remington that's about 4 years old now, and still works fine. The most amazing thing is that the rechargeable battery still functions as well as the day it was purchased. They have come a long way, but it still feels great getting a good wet shave. I use mine only when in a hurry, and/or don't feel like dragging a razor over my face. At least in my case, it cannot replace a "real" razor entirely.,,,,98

My dad has an eletric Braun, but it's not one of the newer ones.

In any case, I still prefer regular razor and shaving cream because the electric made my chin pretty irritated and it was really hard to get everywhere (esp on my throat).

But that's just my experiences with them, and newer ones could do a better job.

Ive had them all, and nothing compares to a real razer (IMO).
I've always found the electrics do a "reasonable" job of giving you a decent shave, but ive never been able to get a real 'close' shave with one.

If I had a choice of getting a gift, I'd prefer getting a 30 pack of disposable gillettes over a braun any day, but that's just me.

I use a Remington rechargeable that's about 4 years old. There isn't a razor known to man that can give me a close shave. I personally will never even bother with anything but electric. Once you're face gets used to an electric (about 1-2 weeks), you'll never use anything else. In fact, electrics are actually easier on the skin than a razor.

That really depends on the face. I'd like to use an electric razor; but, while the Braun was the best I've ever tried, it still couldn't shave me nearly as close as a blade. Someone told me once that if I stuck with the electric, my face would get used to it over time. I tried for half a year and it never worked out for me. I try again, on occasion, with a different brand each time. Nothing beats a blade for speed and closeness without irritation.

Since I have a full beard I can't recommend an electric shaver but I can give some advice. Check the cost of replacement cutters and foils for whichever shavers you are thinking about buying. I went to buy a new foil and cutter for my fathers Braun shaver and was shocked to find that the replacement parts cost nearly as much as the shaver did.

My electric does a good job for the most part. It cannot seem to get the hairs on the sides of my neck no matter how hard I try. As for the standard razor, I have found the best that works for me, and stuck with it. It's a Mach III turbo. That shaver really does the job without any irritation to speak of. The only bad thing is the replacement blades. They haven't been reproduced in the generic yet that I've seen. I wince when I see the prices on them, lol. Each blade lasts for about month without getting ragged and tearing up my face, so in the long run it's not too bad.,,,,98

True.
I have an electric Braun 7015 and the cutters and foil come together.
You can't buy them seperately.
That sucks. Very expensive compared to what the shaver cost.

Tried a couple of times a real razor, not for me.

I use the Mach III. My electric (Norelco) is a POS, I only use it if I absolutely have to. Not much experience with the expensive ones though.

You can get the Mach III and the turbos at Sams club for quite a bit cheaper than most other places. The only catch is you have to buy 25 razor heads. That's like a year supply or more for me.

edit: If you get him an electric, get a nice one. The cheap (sub $40) ones don't do very good IMHO. I've had 3 of the darn things and none even came close to disposable bic razor.

Since he's only 16, I don't think he's going to get much use out of it. Get him a cheaper one, around $80 and it'll do the trick

AS for the standard, I also use the Mach III turbo, man that thing get's one close shave. I like the look of the Mach II turbo champion, but hey, I got my Mach II turbo for free.

Smile

I "upgraded" to a Champion when I left the normal Mach III in a hotel, lol. Same thing, only a different color. You're not missing that much,,,,98
