That's one way a contractor can pay off a piece of equipment that he can't afford, just run it into a lake bed and get it stuck real good. Then have the insurance man come to the site to say "it's totaled, and your insurance should cover it." One more problem took care of.

I have a similar picture from Montana where the subcontractors that we had digging up an old tailings pond sank a trackhoe up to the cab in mud. It took TWO D-10's and about 200 feet of chain to pull it out. I have pics somewhere....
