Am I Over Reacting?

There's a restaurant in my town (take-out), and we used to order from them all the time.
By mistake I found they had a website, and an online ordering system.

So a few nights ago I'm ordering a *****load of food, and I see at the top, it has a running total, and it shows the taxes, and then it shows "Online Ordering Charge: $1.15.

My total was $77, but once I saw this extra charge, I cancelled my order and wrote to their head office to complain.

They wrote me back and said their web hosting costs them x dollars, so they have to pass the cost on to their customers, blah blah blah. They are a big chain.

Personally, I think it's a cheesy move and will never order from them again.
Their food was not cheap to begin with, but it's good.

Wifey said I was over reacting for a lousy buck, but it was the point that irritated me.

Alex, my boy! I think you may be overreacting a little. Remember, it is a service provided to you for your convenience. While they may be a large chain, that doesnt mean that it is super cheap for them to keep things running, although webhosting isnt at all expensive. Do they also charge a delivery charge, or is it all inclusive?

Do they charge a fee when you phone in an order???? If they don't (which I'm sure is the case), then I agree with you entirely.
I think we all understand that you "pay for convenience". In this case though, the "convenience" is more to the restaurant than the customer and I'm not sure why you (or I) would pay for that.

They charge for delivery, they are so cheap, I think they charge a nickel for an extra soya sauce.

Just remember, that's $1.15 Canadian. You are definitely over reacting. Just explain to the driver why his tip is smaller and enjoy your meal.

If the current decline of the American bucks continues, our bucks will be worth like $1.50 US

Everything was great until the stupid Euro came out, now the US money is in the toilet! I want it to go back up, and fast!!

Considering a restaraunt that is considered successful runs maybe a 5 to 7 percent profit BEFORE they pay taxes Id say its not that bad of a deal.

I think that you did the right thing. I would have reacted the same way. As a business owner...I would absorb the cost to make the sale. Maybe you should Email them and tell them that you're gonna take your business to Sum Yung Guy's down the street.

Well, since the chain is SAVING money on not having to PAY a real person to take your order they should not charge you for the online order. That's the whole reason for online ordering, to SAVE the company money for not paying an employee to deal with you. They are trying to stick the people that don't understand how E-buisiness works. Wich is the vast majority at this point. Next time order over the phone and waste their time.

I shop a lot on line. I search for bargains (duh!). Many of the 'bargains' have shipping costs that would gag a mule. It would do me no good to get cranked up about it. My suggestion is to look at what it is you want, and the cost of getting it. If you don't like what you see don't buy.
