Since I was a little boy, I have always found Asian women to be extremely attractive. Not because the media inspired it in me; but, because they tend to have the physical traits I find attractive, no matter what race of woman I am looking at. Dark hair, dark eyes, medium to dark complexion, thick lips, high cheekbones, and slim to petite figure. I have many friends that do not find Asian women at all attractive. In fact, many tend to like women with a lot more meat on their bones than I can abide. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
I resent the way white men in general are held to a higher standard in relation to race sensitivity than everyone else. I notice the exterior characteristics of every person I come into contact with; but, I decide whether I like them, or not, based on their attitude and demeanor, regardless of their race. I have a feeling that I would not like this Asian woman very much, no matter how physically attractive she may, or may not, be. I also have a feeling that her "ugly duckling" complex had more to do with her insides than her outside.

I often hear my Asian brothers say that in this country, Asian women sit in a position of power, that Asian women are much more privileged than Asian men in the media and entertainment industry. There is no use in denying that Asian women such as Lucy Liu, Connie Chung, Lisa Ling and Sung Hee Lee are highly visible figures in mainstream American culture who wield influence over the masses. On the one hand, it is nice to see that Asian women are finally getting more coverage and recognition in television, film, and literature. There were certainly no such images during the 80s, where my formative and adolescent years were spent. The images of beauty and glamour then, came EXCLUSIVELY in the form of white blondes with big hair and big asses. As a female who was barely recognized by the opposite sex growing up, I now have to practically beat away white and black men with a stick. One would ask, shouldn't I be grateful for this change?
There is an ugly, dark side to the recent uptake of Asian women in the media, and contrary to popular belief, not all Asian women are supportive or appreciative of this new trend. To understand this, let us take a closer look at the aforementioned Asian women and examine what other images they portray other than being attractive (on a grand widely held scale of beauty, that is.) Lucy Liu, most known for her role as a lawyer, Ling Woo, on Ally McBeal. Ling is feisty, bitchy, exaggerates the slope of her eyes with her make-up, and has an exclusive taste for white men. Surely, one could argue that Lucy Liu's character is not conditional to her ethnicity (as most of the other female characters are sexually exotified), but the fact is that she plays the role of an Asian female. Ling Woo was created by the minds of the white producers as the Asian woman who is not ashamed of her Chinese heritage, but in fact, uses as a tool to lure white men into her exotic world.
Next, there is Connie Chung, one of America's most famous anchorwomen. Connie Chung not only shuns invitations to speak at Asian American conferences and declines to support Asian American advocacy groups, she has joked about going to China and finding that all of the relatives looked the same.
Lisa Ling, another newbie to the entertainment industry, appears in an Old Navy commercial with 5 other men, in which she asserts that she wants a "strong" "good-looking" man. Among the 5 men, none are Asian. When Ling recounted a story on The View about being confused with Lucy Liu, she had neither the gall nor the pride to defend herself or her race.
And then there is Playboy's beloved Sung Hee Lee. While I am indifferent to women who choose to pose nude, I cannot help but feel a certain amount of spite towards Asian women such as SH Lee who provide fuel for the widespread objectification and subjugation of Asian women as white men's' sexual toys. Does anyone else see the huge irony in the fact that while Asian female characters are still a rare entity in the drama, adventure and comedy sections of video stores, their images flood the **** sections?
Today's Asian female character has been molded to please the white man. There are other Asian female faces who are not subject to the same stereotypes or narrow roles, but they are far less known. The Asian female who is known by the masses is under full control of the white hierarchy. She does not make me proud, nor do I feel that she represents the sisters well. There are definitely some Asian women who enjoy the attention and exotification by white men, and some even use it to their advantage. These women, I must say, have allowed white society to corrupt their minds. However, the majority of Asian women that I know, do not drool at the sight of white men like the characters on television. In fact, many find them outright repulsive. And while most ugly-duckling-turned-swans bask in the attention they receive later in life, I scoff at this. For one thing, I was never an ugly duckling. And for another, I am smart enough NOT to be flattered by men who gawk at Asian women because they have been spoon-fed an Asian fetish. I also have enough respect for myself, that I will not subject myself to being white man's flavor-of-the-month. And if white men look at me and think that I will get on my knees for them, have they ever been wrong!
In the current environment, Asian women may appear to be in positions of power and fame, but scratch the surface and you will see that a white man is holding her up and controlling her with puppet strings. She is nothing I should be grateful for. While Asian men say that the Asian man has a long way to go in mainstream entertainment, I say Asian women have a long way too. Realistic images of Asian men and women are yet to make it in mainstream American culture. My brothers and sisters, we need to be public in our support for one another and not let Hollywood images clutter our perceptions of beauty, power and where we stand vis-a-vis one another. Beauty and power do not come served on a white platter, they come from our community, they come from our brothers and sisters, and they come from ourselves. Of course there are grounds for us Asians to be just as individualist as white people. But when an Asian person sells out, he or she not only sells himself out, he sells the entire community out. Do not be fooled by the media or sucked up by the masses. And my sisters, be proud of your roots and be proud of your fellow Asian brother!

Jesus christ lady. I got tired of reading the crap after Lisa Ling. They're freaking AMERICAN, no wonder they don't "Celebrate" their heritage. I'm a white american kid, I celebrate american holidays, not scottish like my ancestors did.

I can tell you this, that who ever authored the fiction story is an extreme liberal out of touch with reality which most of them are, especially in these days and ages. I don’t understand these kinds of hate and racist groups. No one calls these “little” groups on their racist agenda. They are very little and tiny groups, most all extreme liberal groups are tiny and little with a few big mouths spewing fiction and fantasy about their problems.
Here is the thing to remember for all people, be it your white, Asian, black, Mexican or what ever race. When you stand silent on the side lines and let the few among you who are absolute racist speak without challenging their remarks or rebutting the fiction and fantasy these little groups spew then you are basically approving of what they spew. In essence you are forwarding their agenda and are part of the racist problem they create and thus give the perception that you too are racist.
Yes I am white, and yes there are whites who are racist to the bone. However that is true of all races. It don’t matter your race because you have racist among you and until those of us who are not racist from all these different groups stand together to defeat the few racist among us then there will NEVER be equality for all.
Equality for all is NEVER and will NEVER be brought forward by the racist among us, it is only brought forward when all the different non-racist from all groups stand together. Equality for all will NEVER be brought forward by just one race group, in this case whites.

I was actually thinking of her as a communist, but that didn't seem right. Of course communism is extreme liberalism, so I guess it would be correct in a way, according to you 01.
I see this lady as a facist more than anything. Why? She wants men to drool over her and wants one race to be pretty much suprime, everyone else is her servants.

I have no dilemma with liberals nor conservatives, we need both groups to keep things interesting and in perspective. What was written above about Asian women is a more extreme view of how this certain anonymous person feels. They are obviously incensed and I feel they have a reason to be. Not for the Asian women appealing to only white man, that is irrelevant, but more for these particular Asian women losing their roots.
Yes we are all American but we cannot just leave out our proud past. We all hail from different places other than America, out heritage that is. Be it Mexican, German, Russian, Scottish, Swedish, Japanese, Ethiopian, Italian etc… We all have different customs as per our lineage. Yes, we live in America now but America is not predominantly any one culture or religion. America is and will continue to be the melting pot of the world. I am not going to say you are wrong nor right for your beliefs for they are yours. I will say though till one actually educates themselves and learns to listen to other’s opinions and thoughts will one truly understand how the WHOLE world works and why they have certain views.
God Bless America for what we have and everyone who makes up this great country.

This country's greatest strength has been it's ability to take the best of those that come to us, and incorporate it into what makes us so powerful, our intellectual and idealogical diversity. Racial diversity has almost nothing to do with it. In fact, diversity based on color is a huge road block for racial relations and the future of this country. Imagine how the world would be if people broke off into groups that included not only skin color, but eye color, hair color, facial structure, height, weight, etc.... The problem would be even more pronounced.

So as you grow older you must learn to judge by actions. I will note that I not only speak on liberals but many other groups as well including conservative groups.
One of the big issues of the day that democratic liberals are trying to pit one group against the other is the Medicare prescription drug benefits. Even thought the AARP a group that largely represents the elderly in society approve of this new benefit, the liberal democrats still do not wish for it to pass. It is about having an issue.
If it were really true that liberals supported equal rights then you would really think they would support school vouchers for inner cities where the schools are basically worthless due to the liberals power base “teachers union”.
So you see, liberals in general are “not” for equal rights, but for keeping issues and keeping some groups down to support their issues. That is a sad day for America…
As far as one’s heritage and being in America that is well and fine. However, though America may “seem” to be a melting pot it is America and not England, Africa, Asia, Ireland, or any other country. America has its own set of values and traditions.
If those, like myself, who have ancestors from other countries can not accept American values and traditions, then they are lost souls in a wonder land of make believe if they think America can accommodate every persons heritage values and traditions in one country.
You either accept America for the values and traditions (such as Christmas) it has or you’re simple going to be lost for your stay in America.
America’s traditions are based on many of heritages and they are “American” traditions, not foreign tradition. If Christmas offends some, then so be it, but it is an America tradition and it will continue regardless what a few may feel about it.
Those that wish to push for celebrating every possible holiday, tradition etc are only further separating and dividing Americans into separate groups which only weakens a country not solidify a country.
The anonymous author in the original post is just that type of person, a person who wishes to separate and weaken a nation…

I just stated that the past is still very much important to ones life. My problem comes when one does or says something and automatically others denounce you as less American or not living the American way. Pathetic. Either way, those who know, know, and those who do not, do not.

This country's greatest strength has been it's ability to take the best of those that come to us, and incorporate it into what makes us so powerful, our intellectual and idealogical diversity. Racial diversity has almost nothing to do with it. In fact, diversity based on color is a huge road block for racial relations and the future of this country. Imagine how the world would be if people broke off into groups that included not only skin color, but eye color, hair color, facial structure, height, weight, etc.... The problem would be even more pronounced.
