Talking World Champions

Just finished watching the Rugby World Cup Final.
England beat Australia (current champs) after extra time in Sydney.

Whoohoo!!!!!! Congratulations to Martin Johnson and the team.

Before you all ask, USA did compete as well but went out in the group stages.

Congrats! Rugby hasn't really caught on here in the States. I can't imagine that the US team was especially competitive. Over the past 20 or 30 years, soccer has just barely become a mildly popular sport here.

and thats really only when the world cup rolls around...most people could probably care less about it during the regular season.

It's great to see England winning the cup. It's to bad that Rugby has never really caught on here. Depending on where in the country you are will determine how much you see it. I loved playing for the Air Force when I was in and consider it head and shoulders above any other sport.
Now for those up here in the NorthEast if you feel like watching some great Rugby, take a trip to Saranac Lake/Lake Placid NY. Every August (first weekend) there is the CanAm rugby tourney. Typically 125 teams will compete, with approximately 15 games going at once.
Those that think football takes fitness, play a rugby match. One of my favorite bumper stickers was "Rugby, Elegant Violence" and of course the best one is " God created beer, so that forwards would not rule the world".

Congrats!

I played a little rugby back in college...well it was more like a chaotic game of "tackle the man with the ball"

I've alway been amazed at how controlled and planned the professional teams play. I mean you can actually tell that they are running plays that they've practiced before

Congratulations again!

We called that "smear the queer" when I was a kid.
