Just remember...

I just read a recent post by 31C, and it got me to thinking.

He's one of the lucky military members staying home for a major holiday. I, on the other hand, am not so lucky. I'm 10 time zones away in a former Soviet state. I left on the 3rd of Nov., and I'm not leaving until the 5th of March.

And now the point - don't forget about the guys and gals that won't be home for the holidays.

I hear you there Silent Bob. That is one of the toughest times for a military person. Don’t matter if they are single or married. I spent many holidays away, while in the military, when single and married and they are tough.

I hope you have the best holiday you can under the circumstances. Know people like myself, and there are numerous people like me, that will remember, will include you and others serving in our prayers and are absolutely proud of you and all those serving away from home.

If you only knew the pride I have for people like you, it might make the holidays just a “bit” easier on you while away…

Rgr, Silent Bob hit it on the head. There are so many service members that not only won't be home for the holidays but aren't even going to be in the comfort of the US (or a nice barracks post). I have many friends who have been in Iraq since the start of Operation IF and I would gladly switch with them because what I have done is nothing compared to all of them. So please take sometime (as I know you all do) and remember all our troops.

And try to be nice to everyone, because you never know when you might run into a soldier (who is defending our freedom) who is on leave.

Let's see, I spent basic training through Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's when I started my military career. Spent time at assignments in Guam and Europe and missed a few more. Deployed to Desert Shield/Storm missed them all.

Retired last December. Guess where I'll be for the holidays?

Back to reality. Watch out for your brother's over there SB, missing the holidays really tears some people up. Keep their spirits up and god bless.
