You were lucky...
My first car:

It was at 156k miles when I started driving it. It smokes nice and blue whenever you come off a stop light, and the check engine light comes on constantly...not to mention a handful of other things.

Now my sister drives it
nearly 180k on it.

Yeah it was/is a beast

My sister already dented the rear pass. door pretty bad, and she has only been driving a few months. Although it is hard to start driving with a boat like that.

And yes, it was better than nothing I would go so far as to say it was actually better than some of the cars other kids had at my school...

id be lucky to have something like that from my parents. my parents believe in that whole "work for your own stuff" crap and wont buy me a thing, except if i 'ingerit' it when they buy a new car. one of my teachers happens to be selling his 87 f250 diesel with 288k miles on it, said he'll give it to me for 2500. it has every single reciept from every oil change, every checkup, everything thats ever been done to it. and when you open the hood the engine looks like new. cant find a single speck of dirt or grease on that engine. there is no rust in the body either. now i just gotta wait a few more months until i get my license. can anythone think of any reason why that would not be a good thing to get? i may actually get my dads 99 camry XLE top of the line every option in it. he is looking at the new fords.

about those toyotas, i never have been a toyota truck fan. i just dont like the way they look. ford looks a whole lot better.

Both of those vehiches that you "might" get are nice. Stop thinking that you need to have everything handed to you though. You're parents are right, you need to earn what you get. Hell I know, I started working when I was 16, lifeguarding. By the time my dad went to buy himself a new truck, and I paid off the old truck($3k), I saved up $4k. I did all of it on my own. No mommy and daddy help here. Guess what, I also pay for my own maintance(need new tires soon, so there goes my mod money), pay for my own gas, my own doohickies that I add/do to my truck, and on top of that I pay my own insurence.

To top it all off, all of you youngin's thinking you need a car, you're farther from the truth. I had to wait nearly 1 1/2 years before I got my truck. I got it right before my sr year in high school. As bad as you all think you have to have a car, it's much better in the long run, and you will defniately appreciate it more.

The "boat" was handed down to me when my mom got her new '01 Expy.

Currently Im jobless because school takes too much of my time (college - I have 5 classes and 4 labs to go with em...labs are usually 2-3 hours).

But I should be able to get one soon...I hope.

im not saying i want everything given to me. but everyone i know gets brand new cars for their 16th birthdays. i know people that got a brand new navigator, new dodge ram hemi, BMWs, getting an 04 GMC, 03 silverado with lift on it. their parents bought all of them the cars. its not even just like the parent car just letting their kids use it, they buy them for the kids. most of the kids have never worked a day in their life. i dont have a job yet, but i already do more work than most of these kids do. im in the FFA at school, and im raising a steer and a goat. people dont know how much work it actually is to raise these things. i get out of school and i go work with my animals until about 7. there isnt any program in high school that teaches more responsibility than FFA. i dont know how ill be able to get a job while having animals. i may need to depend on my parents for financial support when i start driving if i plan on continueing the FFA program.

Jealous? There's something in the 10 commandments about that.
