You said F250 LD's had L6/5.0/5.8. Incorrect, the F250 LD was the same as a F150 only stiffer springs and heavier axles with V6/4.6/5.4.
I said,
Until 2000, their were F250 LDs, even in the old (now old-old) body styles They are the ones w/ the inline 6, 302, and 351 V8s. The F250 heavy-duties had the engine options of the diesel or 460 V8.
Let me rephrase, their were F250LDs in the pre-1997 bodystyle (the now old-old bodystyle). Most people generically referred to these trucks as F250s and didn't know there was a difference. I don't know what all the differences were in the early to mid 90s, but only the F250 HDs had the option of diesel or 460ci V8. The F250 LDs had the engine options of inline 6, 302, and 351 V8s. Actually, now that I think about it, the 302 may have been dropped from the choices in the 90s. The 4.6 and 5.4 didn't exist in the F-Series before 1997.

If you are talking about the 97-99 F250 LDs, the diffences are more than just stiffer springs and axles. The F250LDs have 16" 7 lug wheels, larger brake calipers, the tranny is the 4R100, and the rear end was 3.73 I'm guessing their are other differences as well (shocks, stronger frame, etc...)

I'm talking about the F250LD's they were only labeled such during years when they had 2 different body styles in a F250.

97-99 or whenever they replaced them with the now F150 7700 model!!

Ford never called their old style F250's LD/HD prior to them coming out with the 97's F250LD

people reffered to the old style trucks that had different GVWR as LD or HD trucks but that is not the same as FORD labeling them as such.

As far as the difference between the F150 and the F250LD, it is irrelavent to this conversion as I am just trying to distinquish between the different models/body style and mis-nomenclature!

I put a lot of miles on 94 LD F250 for them never to exist.

Do some research - I'm done.

guy, read my post, FORD never called them that!!

You had a 7700 (aprox) GVW F250, They also made a 8600 GVW F250... Thats how they were distinquished by FORD, not LD F250!!

I had a few also..

Do you have an old LD F250 fender badge??? It must be worth a lot...

I'm done...

I couldn't resist, so I came back.

I did a search on Edmonds.com for 1996 F250.
http://www.edmunds.com/tmv/used/1996....num12.0.ford*

It lists the F250 and the F250 HD, and you can see the only engine options for the HD are the 7.3 L turbodiesel, and the 7.5 L V8 - some only have the 7.3L turbodiesel option

No, Ford never put LD on the fender badges, but they didn't in 97-99 either; however, you will see Heavy Duty on some older F250 fender badges.

Not to argue, but those old style F250's were not ever called HD's.. You are right about the engine options.. You could only get the bigger engines with the higher GVW trucks but the were not called F250 HD's they were F250's with the HD suspension.. Edmunds is only referring to that...

You seem to be missing the point anyway.. The point is that F250's ( body styles ) were referred to as LD or HD after they came out with two different body style F250's in the same year regardless of GVW..

Agreed on the basis of body style.

I had a '99 F250LD, same thing as an F150 7700.

- Larger rotors, I believe 13.5"
- HD shocks
- power steering cooler
- 4700 lbs rear axle
- HD rad, thicker
- HD alternator
- HD battery
- LT tires standard, load range D
- the tranny is the same as a F250 SD and the F350 SD
- 8,600 lbs towing
- 11,500 lbs GCVWR
- 7,700 lbs payload
- 3:73 rear end from factory
- 4R100 Tranny
- Extra leaf in back
- Larger Torsion bars

Annnnd...My Old truck
