Mostly agreeing with dirt bike dave on this one...
Granted, he brought to light serious problems in the Fed. Security System (or lack of such) and for that we should say thanks...right before we punish him big time.
If he gets off then every college student like him and countless others will follow the example set...gee...if I can sneak somehting on a plane I can get a consulting job with the airlines too!!!!
This is not the message we want to send out.
They are going to have to make an example of this kid otherwise all hell is gonna break loose.

He snuck the stuff on the planes, hid them, and that at a later time sent an email saying what he had done.
Thats a lot different then getting caught red handed and then yelling "it's only an experiment".
They need to either punish the crap out of him, or hire him. Either way he needs to be made an example of so that others don't try the same thing.
01 - I just can't agree with pilots having guns. Being tired, stressed, warn out, anything that can affect aim is to risky to take on a plane. All it takes it 1 stray bullet to shoot out a window at 30k feet and it's not gonna be pretty.

Ok, then how about a co2 pellet gun? Bet that would hurt like a mother or at least enough to stop the terriost somewhat so they can get him with the Ax...

And speaking of our Muslim Extremists Terrorists friends...here's something Odin's Wrath posted back in August. It's about General Black Jack Pershing and how he handled the terrorist problem back in the 40's. I still think it is the most creative and effective thing I have heard of with regard to how to handle these clowns:
