Leaving the Ford Camp
Leaving the Ford Camp
I've always been a fan of Ford and have had great luck with mine but unfortunately it is time to say goodbye for a while. I got a deal that was too good to walk away from. Traded my 01 Screw Lariat 4X4 for a 04 Dodge Quad 2500 with the HO Cummins, 48RE auto. 305 HP and 555 lb ft of torque. Its a torque monster ! My Screw had given me great service and I loved the truck but the Cummins was too much to resist. I looked at the new HD Fords but the troubles I'm reading with the 6.0 and the price, I couldn't make the deal work.
I'm loosing the leather seats and 4X4 (didn't use it anyway) but the pulling power will more than make up for the loss of options. Bought it below invoice plus got the $2500 rebate and still was able to get 4.65% interest. Payment went up $30 a month and picked up the 7/70 powertrain warranty and the Cummins has a 100K mile warranty.
I'll still visit you guys because I still have 2 Ford products in my driveway. Many of you guys provide great insite and advice; keep up the good work.

I dont get why everybody wants the diesels to be quieter. That was my favorite thing about em, you could hear those suckers a few blocks away

I have to give it to Dodge (cummins rather) though, their older ones were LOUD! The new ones are really quiet though.

yep, the new cummins is quiet but there is no mistake; you can tell it is still a diesel. at cruise on the highway it is extremely quiet but under acceleration it makes some noise. the truck is extremely well insulated and that helps to keep the noise inside down. the noise was not a factor in the decision, i wanted the power and reliability.
i tow a black trailer so i feel that a black truck is the only choice. it was hard to find a black Ford with the options and price i wanted. Most were Lariats and a 42-43K price tag. Did find a black XLT but it was loaded with leather and a lot of options, it listed for over 40K and they didn't want to sell it to me at invoice less rebates plus give me what Dodge offered me for my trade. I just couldn't justify the additional $5200 between the two deals.
I know several people that have had Dodge HD Cummins trucks and they have very few issues with them and seem to love the truck. I have always maintained my vehicles well, don't abuse them and have never had major problems with any of them, it didnt' seem to matter what brand they were. I expect the same service from this one, time will tell.

Well, congrats on your new truck... I've always liked Dodge trucks, and still do. I know that can get you beaten within an inch of your life around here, but oh well... I like Chevy's too, so I just might take another beating...
but then the first time I went to see my Dad with my Ford (as a joke) he made me park in the neighbor's driveway...

Wow, learn something new everyday; maybe I'll see one of these machines in the future!
